It's what a not so small part of any fandom does.

I feel it is because spock by lore is a very dignified character, despite the gender issue knowing a man wont smack a woman even for fun, I think slapping Spock here is the same way I will feel if someone slapped Whoopi Goldberg Guinan from TNG.

You're using a completely wrong character for your example.
Guinan would be the one doing the bopping, not the other way around.

I like how they don't automatically identify the web as being Tholian. Who knows how often the Federation and the Tholian Assembly have even been in direct contact since the Archer Era. We know their punctuality is legendary by 2268 but that still allows for not too many encounters between ENT and SNW.

You know - way back when this was part of the initial promos; I too felt for sure it was Tholians - after seeing this longer promo for the actual episode, I'm no longer so certain -- IE Akiva MAY be playing us (and if so doing a good job of it )
