Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

So I turned on the TV tonight. It was still tuned to my local Sci-Fi channel and I was treated to "Dagger of the Mind" followed by "The Corbomite Maneuver" (which was the first Star Trek I ever saw, first broadcast, my mum let me stay up that night.) They're still great.

What followed was a rebroadcast of Strange New Worlds 01-06. It was a cool and unexpected experience. And also a smooth transition. Despite the tech and sfx, it was smooth, like it was another TOS episode. Really cool experience. Obviously they're putting the effort in, but it doesn't seemed forced so far.

I'm trying to figure out the inspiration for the meal T'Pring set up for her and Spock to share. It kind of looked like a mountain of cous cous dotted with veggies. But I can't find a screen cap of it. The set dressing is very cool in this scene.

Hooray, Star Trek Feels Like Star Trek Again

Ethan Peck’s Spock, for me, succeeds because it does not feel like a Nimoy impression. There are influences, certainly. The way that character relates to everyone else and his role in the ship’s overall group dynamic feel tied to the original Spock without being overly beholden or nitpicky. In general, I dislike prequels, especially those with an earlier version of a beloved character — that later iteration feels like homework, and watching Guy You Know But Young Now tends to have that sense of wanting the writers and performers to show their work. I know the answer is Spock, so now they have to solve for Spock.

There is still some of that in Strange New Worlds, but Peck’s Spock and Celia Rose Gooding’s Uhura both have a shining inner sincerity that pushes against the cynical foreknowledge of why these characters are in this series at all. It could come off as so cloying, but by and large, I find I’m just happy to spend time with them.

Noticed something during the Jess Bush interview on the Ready Room, this was done during Season 2 shooting, and looks like they may have slightly modified Pike's ready room for Season 2

Whatever these panels are, they're not there in Season 2.
It is possible they could be behind the panels there, or it's production equipment usually hidden behind set pieces.

Re: 01-07, damn! Pike is slick!! And Mount really sells it. He's rapidly becoming my favourite captain. And then there's THE KISS. I had to take cold shower. Jess Bush had a lot to do with that. :adore:

Question, my sound got all mumbly at the end. What was that last thing he said about Sarek and Sybok?

It would seem Sarek knocked boots with a Vulcan princess without ticking the matrimony box first. I know they specifically said something about Spock's bastard half-brother, but I was too busy making that sound one makes after swallowing really nasty cough medicine to hear it. (I'm not a Sybok fan)

The Vulcan princess waited for Sarek's pon farr to come around, locked him up, and well... now we know where Sybok inherited his criminal tendencies from.
