No way, I'd call my kid something normal like Alice or Mary or Delenn or something.
What he said... and what Dennis said, too.I don't see a problem with a nice name like James, Tasha or Deanna, but something like Spock or Seven would be tantamount to child cruelty.
People have a problem with "Miles"? There are Miles jokes?I would only use a name that also looked and sounded like a normal name--I have no wish to set up my child to get picked on.
"Kira" is a choice that comes high on the list for me. WAAAY before I watched DS9, Kira was the name of my very first friend, as a child. So I think that giving that name to my own daughter, whenever I have children, is one that would make sense. ESPECIALLY because I would also have a good non-Trek reason that I think would be something my daughter could be proud of.
For a son, Miles is actually not a bad name...however, I would avoid it because of the non-DS9 jokes it would be likely to engender. Again, not getting my kid teased is paramount. Same reason for eliminating "Julian," however much I like that name.
But overall, MOST Trek names I would not use. "Kira," I think, is the one exception.

Julian seems like a nice name too. Whats the problem there?
My youngest is named Leonard James Scotty McSulu.
When I started writing TNG parodies, I changed "Miles" to "Kilometres." No doubt Keiko also wonders why Miles' parents hadn't gone metric by the 24th century.People have a problem with "Miles"? Kids will get teased no matter what name you give them. It's pretty much how kid brains operate.Well, it's not that Miles would necessarily get HORRIBLE jokes, but I can just see the "miles and miles and miles" comments. And Julian--I like it, but I would never give it to my son because the poor kid would be teased for having what sounds so similar to a woman's name (Julienne). It's in the same category as naming your son "Shannon" or "Leslie," in my book.
Yes, I am sure you'd get teased as much as someone called Seven...Kids will get teased no matter what name you give them. My name is Michael, which sounds similar to Michelle. What were my parents thinking????!!!!!!
If its not their name it will be their hair color, their glasses, the way they talk or something else.Yes, I am sure you'd get teased as much as someone called Seven...Kids will get teased no matter what name you give them.
