Would you give your child a trekkie name?

I think my sons Londo and Lennier would be horrified if I embarrassed them by giving them Trek names.

(Just kidding -- I don't have any kids.)

any parent you would saddle their child with an overtly trek name (james and leonard and jonathon being not overt) should be imprisoned. seriously, people who do idiotic thing like that are an liability to the cause of making trek fans not a laughling stock

I suppose country of origin would matter. There are places were names like Dax, Ezri or Nerys aren't "overt".

And not all the names aren't all that bad. I mean here in the US there are parents giving their kids names like Starshine, no joke I actually knew someone with that as their legal name. So something like Kira, Kes, Ezri, or Jadzia really doesn't seem "overt" to me.

Since I have parents who wanted their kids to have unusual names, and no I'm not saying what my name is since I hate it, I most definitely want my kids to have common names. Though, I suppose a Trek name that was also a common non-Trek name would work. For their middle names, however, I would consider a more overt Trek one.

Boys First Names:
Leonard
Thomas
Joseph
Jonathan
Charles (though not a particularly favorite character of mine, it also works since it's the same name as my all-time favorite TV character, Charles Ingalls from "Little House on the Prairie")

Girls First Names:
Christine
Beverly
Kira
Kathryn

Possible Middle Names:
Montgomery
Mara
Miles
Ezri
B'Elanna
Annika
Naomi
Archer
Talas

^ Mara is a very common name in my country, although perhaps less these days than it would have been 50-100 years ago (it seems just slightly old-fashioned or rural, though not too much, and I had a girl in my class in school called Mara).

Annika is probably common depending on where you live. Naomi is quite common in English-speaking countries, isn't it?

Mara is very common in Italy too. I know at least three different Mara.

I'd say Annika is probably common in areas of the United States like Minnesota, or other areas with large populations of people of Scandinavian descent. Naomi isn't unheard of, but I think it would be another "old fashioned" name.

Sorry to revive this almost completely dead thread, but i saw something on tv last night that i wanted to share with you guys.

I was watching a show about being pregnant with health issues. The couple the show focused on had, among other mental health issues, social anxiety. I remembered that a few of the posters on the BBS mentioned they suffer from Social Anxiety Disorder....

Anyway, later on in the show the couple have the baby....and guess what her name is? Jadzia Nerys! I pumped my fist and thought, "AWESOME!!" You go guys!

Anyway, if by chance either of that couple post here, congratulations on the birth of that beautiful baby girl. I hope you guys are doing ok. And i do want to give you kudos for allowing a camera into your life to share how difficult anxiety disorders can be, especially in the hormonal hell ride known as pregnancy!

I heard that too!!! I was totally wondering if they were gonna make a comment in passing or something. At first they just said Jadzia and I thought it was just a coincidence, then later when she said her whole name I knew it couldn't really be one. And congrats from me too if they are on here.:)

I don't plan on having kids, but my last litter of puppies all got Star Trek names.

The boy is Harry, the girls are Alice, Deela, Leila, Lenore, Magda, Marta and Vina.

I'm probably keeping Deela, so her registered name will be "Wink Of An Eye". Lenore and Vina are also possible keepers, but I'm not sure what would be good registered names for them.

I used to work with a girl named Sarah Jane S-------. I asked if her parents were Dr. Who fans, she replied "Yes, why?". I explained about Sarah Jane Smith and when she checked with her parents she found out that they had named her after the character. She was not amused.
