Whose names would you put on the wall?

I have a few issues with that wall.

I can no longer tell if cmdr is commander or commodore or a mix of both.

Culber and Stamets are still alive, unless this is from their presumed deaths in 2257 or 8...in which case a revision should have been made.

Kirk was demoted to captain and stayed there.

Chapel was a dr but here is listed by rank same as Beverly but M'Benga is listed as dr. Consistency would be nice.

Wesley was only ever a lt jg in a Nemesis deleted scene that Picard season 2 expunged.

Then theres several ranks somebody clearly just glanced at the wiki saw their most recent rank and thought thatll do.

I now choose to add this wall to alderaan and kryptonite as a background graphic I ignore.

Julian Bashir also seems to have run into some difficulties, given that he never gets higher than his DS9 rank.

I'd theorize that he got booted due yo his genetic engineering, but then he wouldn't be on a wall of honor.

It depends on whether a given character had a satisfactory resolution in canon. If they did, the wall doesn't matter. If they did not, the wall might be a chance to rectify this. Assuming it's accurate, and assuming that background art is regarded as canonical.

Or, and hear me out here, it’s just a piece of background art meant as a cute in-joke for life-long Trek fans, honoring all the shows that came before this one, nothing more and nothing less. :p
Which ironically bothers lifelong trek fans because of investment in the shows that came before.

Christine Chapel became a Doctor by 2286 in Star Trek VI: The Voyage Home.
She was a doctor in TMP.

Blasphemy! Next you'll tell me those graphics on the Enterprise D are wrong too!

;)

Doesn’t bother this lifelong fan in the slightest. If anything I think in terms of aesthetics it’s a bit of an eyesore. Traditionally they always used stuff like the dedication plaques or blink-and-you-will-miss-it background graphics as a way to include these type of in-jokes. As a fan you knew they were there, but they weren’t so big that they would take you out of the story. This wall of names is so large that it’s hard to not look at it. So yeah, I just take it as what it’s probably meant to be: A way for the producers to say “Here, we honor and remember all the Trek characters of the various shows that came before ours”, and certainly not “Hey fans, here’s a totally accurate list of each and every canon characters that ever did something worthwhile in the Trek universe, complete with the canon rank they held when they died so that you might complete your Memory Alpha entries.”

Placid, reasonable, half-measures? Where do you think you are?

Fan service of that nature is tricky. In general, it's a cheap, easy way of pleasing your audience: a character's fate is unknown in canon, so put it on the wall. Yay! Beverly made admiral! Garak's an ambassador! And Worf really did make captain.

Downside is, you can't make a mistake that contradicts canon (like Geordi being listed as commander instead of Commodore), you don't tell people what they don't want to hear (like Stamets and Culber apparently dying), and you don't reveal the fate of a character when you'll piss someone off no matter what you do with them (hence them restoring Harry to Schrödinger status).

More of the wall. #nycc #newyorkcomiccon

Dave Brubeck is a pianist (Maybe Riker nominated him? )

ETA: Correction.
"Napoleon Solo"? Now we're drifting into "Commander Luke Skywalker" territory.
