wooden acting

Apparently Cirroc was the only actor on the show he was warm towards in any way
He also had a strong relationship with Meaney, and Visitor has said she still has a strong relationship with Brooks. Farrell shows almost constant appreciation for him. And Siddig started with a strong relationship with Brooks, and although they had some falling out, Siddig still speak of Brooks with great admiration.

It's hard to believe that it's because of his acting.

Option 1: Siddig is telling the truth.
Option 2: Siddig is worried that he can't tell the truth twenty years after Avery basically retired from Hollywood.
He wouldn't want to be mysteriously blackballed from Rutgers, would he?

Oww, google is your friend, you can find too much stuff from his interviews how he acts to fans, to their questions if they are not talking about their admiring to him, etc. Totally eccentric. Did you watch the "The Captains" ? Totally awkward.
I am OK with that he didn't participated at ISB's documentary. He did his job. Fulfilled his contract which he paid for. He must not be turn back, think back or had any dept to fans. Period.

Not every actor has an obligation to be a lifelong superfan themselves. 2 words: William Shatner. His attitude towards fans is infamous. Much like Harrison Ford playing Han Solo - showing up, getting paid, doing press stuff, but having a disdain for much of the franchise and the fanbase. Ford & Shatner have a lot in common. ST is so possessive of its characters and its actors, but not all of those actors are looking to be identified as those characters forever, especially if they're moving on with life or branching into other roles (particularly outside of the sci-fi genre). Fans' expectations on ST actors can be a bit much, to put it lightly.

True. Most of them never even watch the final product. They just don't care. Give them enough money and they'll say that they care though, and convincingly too.

I suspect watching the final product would be like if you got home from work and your boss called while you are trying to relax on the porch and wanted to go over the
Peterson report point by point.

There is some disagreement about the quality of Avery Brooks work on Star Trek. But wooden? If anything, I'd say he swung more to the overly emotional.

Personally, I think he did a good job.

Wooden? Hardly! :) Like Shatner, Brooks did go OTT at times. Usually constrained, but sometimes toeing the tightrope of camp. Once in a while he'd go beyond the stratosphere. And I loved every minute of it because the style pretty much fit the scene's needs at the time. (For stratospheric coverage of OTT, try the 4th season episode "Our Man Bashir". He's fantastic and does the Bondesque villainy beautifully.)

He was perfect in that.

Well that's interesting because another poster said that Cirroc Lofton and Avety Brooks got along great in real life.

IIRC from The Fifty-Year Mission Cirroc Lofton was basically the only actor on the show Brooks was close to the entire way through. He basically treated him like an adoptive son.

He was also close to Visitor, according to her own accounts.

Benjamin Sisko alias Avery Brooks actor. i am watching ds9 again, and i still think that Avery Brooks acting is wooden even after all this time my opinion hasn't changed. he was definitely not the right person for that role. and that has nothing to do, with black and white. before you say, is it cause hees black

It is easy to find out. Put a bound up Avery Brooks in a big pool of water. If he floats then he is made of wood. If he is made of wood then his acting is likewise wooden and he is a witch. It's called the scientific method and you are welcome.

I disagree, ebony doesn't float. In fact, it's the only wood I know of that has that characteristic. I wouldn't be surprised if there were others though.
