Walking Dead Season 7 Discussion - Spoilers possible!

For a complete psychopath, there's something really likeable about Negan. I don't know what, is it his smile? His swagger? Is he one of those guys who reminds everybody of someone they know? Would Dean Jeffery Morgan be the most successful used car salesmen in history?

I'm sure we'll be reminded again in no time that he's the bad guy, but I think props need to go to DJM for pulling this off; I can't see anyone else playing Negan now.

I dunno, I still think they should have gone with their first choice

I thought that the Termites were saving and counting their shell casings.

Does the casing expand a bit after the bullet is fired, and is that a problem later as far as loading it back into another weapon? The diameter would be different.

No, in real life there is a whole cottage industry of hobbyists who repack their own ammo.

The first article I googled about reloading mentioned reusing the brass 8 times. It didn't say this was the limit, just a number they used for cost comparisons on buying vs reloading.

It's "possible" and in a world where there's no bullet manufacturers anymore anything he's going to make is going to be better than nothing but it's not going to be exactly high-caliber (no pun intended) stuff. He can manufacture basic black powder, he can manufacture the bullet he can get casings and likely acquire, or may well know how to make, the primer. He can potentially make very, very, crude bullets that will serve their purposes and needs. They just won't be ideal.
Thanks for clearing all that up, btw. I still think if there's an opportunity to make one, they should already have been dedicating a considerable amount of effort to making more, but at least I know the scope of that now

It's the unshakable confidence, coupled with what at least seems to be genuine congeniality, but that's all part of the act... apologizing to someone like Olivia or Carl for going too far, even though it's really just another facet of toying with them

Negan is the 1st character to be 100% completely comfortable with the world, & himself in it, being the kind of ruthless person he & everyone in the ZA knows they have to be. It's that acceptance that made him powerful. Negan is everything Rick isn't. He's everything Carol is recoiling from having learned about herself. He's everything Glen would never have let himself become. Negan isn't a used car salesman. He's the right man for the right time... terrible. They've all had to be terrible. Negan is just the only one who is fine admitting "Hey... this is who I am now". Negan likes this world, & he may be the only one yet, who ever truly did

Pretty much it though i'd really like to see the show peel back the curtain a bit and show us who he was before and how came to be the ruler of that region.

What i love about Negan is that he seems genuinely charming yet there's a shark swimming very close to the waterline that can jump up at any time. He's having much fun because he#s holding all the aces currently.. his guys can plunder at will 2 settlements that are nothing more than supply centers, his people treat him like royalty and he has a whole harem to fuck whenever and whoever he wants. The guy is sure living his dream.

It's so interesting to see how he reacts to certain things.. Carl blasts 2 guys and aims his weapon at Negan yet he enjoys it and makes a (humiliating) game out of it.. he loves humiliating people and using his power and reputation to do his bidding and that's so much fun to see.

However as the saying goes the drops are mounting and soon enough it will be the last drop.. i'm curious to see what the mid season finale will bring and when the show will switch into high gear and have the other settlements unite against the Saviours, i'm guessing season 7 finale.

"Hearts Still Beating"--

Rosita: Notably, she did not answer Father Gabriel about Sasha. Yeah, sure, the hurt is still there. Where that goes is anyone's guess.
After her talking to Glenn about wanting to be needed (in 5A), she still needs validation that she matters--is a part of the group. She might miss Abraham, but his cold dumping of her--and the reason why (she's not the only woman in the world) made her feel less than an individual.

After trashing Eugene in the last episode, she finally shows an ounce of concern for the man she (ultimately) roped into being Negan's prisoner / bullet manufacturer.

Michonne: Great speech to Rick about using their history as survivors to work to their advantage.

Maggie: Is she wearing Glenn's cap?

Daryl: Wow. He "Negan-ized" the fat guy, however, Negan will be on the rampage once he discovers Daryl missing and his fat lackey dead.

Father Gabriel: Great moments. He has grown so much since 5A, and is a wealth of wisdom.

Spencer: What an idiot. He begged for his gruesome fate....and that's the end of the Monroe family, and his ridiculous, pampered horn-blowing of Deanna's political life.

Judith: Only mentioning her because she was not placed in any sort of danger...but will she survive the rest of the season?

The disguised spy...Oceanside? Dwight? Sherry? The woman Michonne briefly kidnapped?

7B should be a wild, frightening ride.

Rick got his groove back, and the Python is back in its holster.

Spencer got what was coming to him, no sympathy there from me.

So what is the deal with the bandage on Negan's forearm?

.
Didn't she learn from Darryl ?

Now Olivia's blood is on her hands...and Eugene...?

I am looking at it again...maybe.

But shouldn't she keep a low profile...does she know that they told Negan she was dead?
Daryl: Wow. He "Negan-ized" the fat guy, however, Negan will be on the rampage once he discovers Daryl missing and his fat lackey dead.

My wife and I both said he was actually sounding like a pastor...and his words were absolute truth. If only Rosita heeded them!
Spencer: What an idiot. He begged for his gruesome fate....and that's the end of the Monroe family, and his ridiculous, pampered horn-blowing of Deanna's political life.
It was funny on Talking Dead that even the actor thought SPencer was a d-bag! Not sad on his death...but funny ...did the Saviors set him up to be killed? Or they sincerely liked his kissing up to them.
Judith: Only mentioning her because she was not placed in any sort of danger...but will she survive the rest of the season?
She's getting so big.
The disguised spy...Oceanside? Dwight? Sherry? The woman Michonne briefly kidnapped?
Good question.... did Jesus have boots like that?
7B should be a wild, frightening ride.
Indeed
She died from a gun shot.

The scene wasn't that clear to me on that...

OK, so whoever was complaining about the episodes focusing on just one set...hope they're happy now. This particular episode the mix works well.

Interesting how Carol and Morgan seem to be on close to the same page....but when they hear about Glenn & Abe.. how will that change things? Oh, and speaking of speaking truth, the Kingdom guy (forgot his name) was also making perfect sense too. Hope he doesn't give up hope too soon

Also, no mention of Aaron by you guys? Seems like he really stepped up. He's always been a good guy, but has grown fro idealistic to extra-risk-taker and loyal to Rick's group. Definitley an asset. Is he pretty much the only ALexandrian left (that has a speaking part)?

During a marathon, I saw an episode where Spencer & Olivia were part of a group considering trying to rebel against Rick. EVen though it was one guy (forgot his name) who was the real instigator...are they all now dead?

The disguised spy...Oceanside? Dwight? Sherry? The woman Michonne briefly kidnapped?

No way it's the woman Michonne kidnapped given that they were in a completely different location when Spencer and Rick were being watched by the guy by the lake. I'm guessing part of the next "big bad" group, probably one of The Whisperers. Though it'd seem "too soon" for this considering tin the comics that happens after a time jump. I guess it could be someone from Oceanside. Dwight wouldn't make any sense either, he's "too far behind" as well to be lakeside by the boathouse. May also be The Kingdom guy, finding out about Alexandria in order to help with the war.

Another episode that tracked pretty closely with the comic counterpart, I knew Spencer was dead, though Olivia was a bit of a surprise. (But she's gotten a lot of focus this Half of the season so not much of a surprise, I guess.)

The bro-hug between Rick and Daryl at Hilltop was touching, I was really expecting Dwight to show himself there, but I'd guess his reveal will come when Rick meets The Kingdom (like what happens in the comic.)

Speaking of... What was the point in that scene with Carol, Morgan and the Kingdom guy? Just to remind us these people still exist and to meet contractual obligations to these cast members and their appearances on the show?

Got to love bad-ass Maggie getting the peach from Gregory. ;)

More touching that hug between Rick and Daryl? Rick's reunion with his revolver.

Also touching: the scene between Rick and Michonne in the cell (a sign as to Negan's fate?) I was part expecting him to spurn her, thinking had she stayed at Alexandria things might not have happened the way they did, but her speech to him was great and nice to see Rick now motivated to act. As was said on The Talking Dead, "The sheriff is back in town!"

Got to say, I like JDM's Negan better with the scruff.

Seriously, Aaron, why did you keep the bird-flipping note?

I really wish the episode had kept the scene from the comics with Negan taunting Rick over Carl's actions and return.

Eugene is now captured. So... Still waiting for him and Rosita to hook-up.

Apparently, Negan dedicated a good deal of his men at Alexanderia to moving the pool table out into the street. Those things aren't exactly light and it'd take a good handful of men to move it without taking it completely apart and having to put ti back together.

It looked to me like Negan scratched on his final shot before the encounter with Spencer but when he goes back to the table after gutting Spencer he gets ready to line up for a shot with the cue ball back on the table.

I wasn't expecting the show to go with Negan's sort of psychotic and insane personification of Lucille, until know it seemed just more of a "joke" and him trying to be funny/intimidating but when Rosita shoots it he seems to really react with violence as if it were really a "person."

So is Rosita just a shitty shot to not hit Negan at close range or the home-manufactured bullet just didn't have the ideal ballistics to move in a straight line so it moved with a bias?

And I'm guessing Rosita was going for a head-shot and not center mass (harder to miss.)

Carol: Get over yourself dammit.

This first half of the season has been.... "slow." It does really seem like the show wants to try and pad itself out to more have these "cliff-hanger" or "changing point" mid-season moments. Which makes some sense to create a bit of anticipation for what's to come but if they're going to do it like this they need tighter writing in the episodes. This first part of the season just took a bit too long.

me, and yes, that worked much better. Sure it was because it was a finale, so they had to touch all of the various threads, but yes, much happier with how this was cut. You don't get an hour of moving one plotline forward, but moved everyone around a bit instead and felt like more was happening this way.

they're going to have to go into open rebellion pretty soon, the list of people they have to hide is starting to grow, and someone's going to slip. Also probably not great for the group once Negan notices that the groups are starting to intermingle; I know I wouldn't want them leaning on each other for support. Better to have them all isolated and looking to me instead of commiserating with each other about me. that leads to plotting... :)
