That's rather black and white thinking. If the look of TOS is so pathetic and unworthy of preservation, maybe DISCO should just steer clear of TOS stuff.

No, the difference is homage. "In A Mirror Darkly" was basically the penultimate episode of what was expected to be Star Trek's last television episode for quite some time. The series had already been cancelled and they decided to blow what was left of their budget on a special treat for long time fans (before then pissing on everyone with "These are the Voyages").Ah, I see. The difference is arbitrary.

How dare you call TOS "sub-par!" I mean, just look at Star Trek continues and how good it looks and all the details. No, the difference is homage. And to be honest: TOS did an amazing job for its time and for its budget, but in absolute terms both its sets and props are sub-par. This is equally true of its music and sound effects; I found out a while ago that if you play the "Doomsday Machine" suite at just the right time it perfectly syncs up with the warp intercept scene from "Star Trek Into Darkness", which is totally cool and all, but there's no way in hell the old TOS background music actually belongs in a modern production.
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not...How dare you call TOS "sub-par!" I mean, just look at Star Trek continues and how good it looks and all the details.![]()

Yes, I was being sarcastic, largely in anticipation to the counterarguments that you will face.
They recognize it as a Constitution Class for the same reason we do: that's what it resembles. Any differences it may have are presumably subtle enough not to be worth mentioning, or simply unimportant.
I've always favored leaving things as they've been, but if a Constitution showed up and it looked like Hanzhefu's, I would be very pleased with it.
Has the "visual reboot" been confirmed by the members of the production? Because until it's flat out stated I'm not going for that. It's not ludicrous, It has an established look and should follow it. Beef up the quality of things but follow the look. That's common sense.
That image wasn't a Mirror Universe altered version of the Constituiton-class. Discovery's crew knew exactly what it was, were confused by it not being where it was meant to be, and made zero mention of it looking any different. That's how it looks, and people really need to accept that.
I thought it was a fun way of introducing the redesign, actually.
No, because there’s no such thing as a "visuals only reboot" or a "visual reimagining". It doesn’t exist. It’s a made-up term by fans.
You still wearing bellbottoms or perming your hair?Donuts are dated. Let's make them square now.
Babies grow up and never use the same bathwater..that's just yuckyAh, I see. The difference is arbitrary.
If the look of TOS is so pathetic and unworthy of preservation, maybe DISCO should just steer clear of TOS stuff. I personally don't mind a lot of the "updates" but there is such a thing as too much. Babies and bathwater, etc.

I like Hanzhefu's Discovery, but I'm so accustomed to the official one now that it's a bit weird seeing it.

Here's how I now look at things. The visuals are merely a "lens" by which one looks at the events in Trek continuity. There is absolutely nothing to prevent the entirety of TOS, for example, from happening exactly as we originally saw it, except with the visual style we are now seeing in DSC.
