Strange New Worlds Intro

Just seen this. It was as good a reboot of the TOS intro as can be expected. The theme was decent, not as clunky as I expected.

But Anson Mount reading the monologue/captain's oath had a weird TOS fan film quality about it. Maybe it's just always gonna sound that way when someone not William Shatner or Leonard Nimoy say it. Chris Pine said his deliberately quite differently so it kinda worked but even then not 100%.

The only Trek themes that have stuck in my mind are TOS, TMP/TNG and for some reason TAS. The others are forgotten until I hear them again.
Ditto. Never liked any of the other Berman era themes nor the 'Sonic Wallpaper" style of background music in the majoity of that era's episodes. (Yes, some composers did occasionally break from that paradigm: but they often said they expected to be fired or not brought back for more work on a Trek series.)

I also liked the theme updates done for the JJ Abrams Trek films.

It's nice to see strange new worlds and stuff in this title sequence. Makes me long to see Voyager remastered and upgraded this way...

Space should remain awe-inspiring. New worlds and old should always be strange...

I almost want to think that Mount couldn't give it a more emotional read because of the pressure of saying those words for that purpose.

Mount talks about doing the opening monologue here

Patrick Stewart's version resonated with me as much as Shatner's...

I would have preferred just using the TOS theme with no alteration, although I suppose there was no chance of that.

At least the SNW theme had bits of the TOS theme in it.

I couldn't recall the TAS theme if my life depended on it. But yeah the TOS and TMP/TNG themes leap full-throated into my mind. I really should raise those rafters, now that I think of it.

No idea why is stuck. But I can whistle the damn thing at the drop of pin. Maybe being 13 when I encountered it is why.

I like the colorful reflections on the hull, and the theremin at the end. The rest is very generic music. Was hoping for something much more exciting, epic, uplifting, adventurous... this is just random meh music.
