Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

It's more like being a jerk which real militaries unfortunately have tons of. Not being a military could mean less jerks. Ortegas has been a jerk even outside her ptsd. That's why the stiles thing, while odd, wasn't entirely out of character for her

I have never seen her as a jerk. The only time she came close was when she got mad at Spock for no reason when he prevented her from going on a landing party because of some tech reason. That was about it.

An opinion you have, no doubt, developed from your vast experience in the service?

I had coworkers who weren't nice who served, but knew many more who were great people who did.

I wouldn't be allowed to serve as I have a hearing disability. Any more backdoor personal attacks (against a person with a disability no less)? Knock it off

This line of conversation is done on my end. If I made a mistake in letting some bad coworker experiences influence a post then I'm sorry, but that's it. I've said this topic is over and let it be at that in regards to me and stop addressing me personally if you want to continue the topic without me.

Edit: Posts under me are already ignoring this request, and the apology for any errors in this very post, because this has gotten into personal attacks against me now.

You don’t get to dictate what folks here post. If you put something out there, anyone is allowed to reply.

Questioning a stance is not a personal attack. And frankly, I (and I would assume many others) had no idea you were disabled. I’m sorry you’re dealing with that. Not everyone has the time to read every post and know everything about every poster. Friendly advice: take a breath. Take a walk. Take a step away. If this conversation is bothering you, I would recommend getting away from here for a bit. Because this is pretty mild.

I like Ortegas. She talks back more than what would likely be accepted in a real military chain of command.
Again, I'm going to bring up the story of when the actual US Air Force Chief of Staff visited the Stargate SG-1 set. While chatting, Richard Dean Anderson asked him if there were any actual Colonels who acted like O'Neill. General Ryan sighed and said "we have many Colonels who are exactly like O'Neill. And many more who are much worse."

I have to admit, that TrekMovie review doesn’t sound very good. Sounds like more of what they did last season, which unfortunately was more hit than miss. I will definitely watch and make up my own mind, of course, but I will say, this certainly sounds like the writers have bought into the idea that all the show should be is a vehicle to do the wackiest concepts imaginable, with little in terms of substance underneath the wacky surface. As much as I loved “Those Old Scientists” and “Subspace Rhapsody” in season two, looking back it seems like the mostly positive reactions those got set the writers on a path of making those kind of episodes the rule rather than the exception. Fingers crossed this won’t be as frustrating a watch every week as last season turned out to be.

For all people say season 3 was getting too silly, the only episodes which really push the envelope of silliness are the holodeck episode and the Vulcan serum one. Maybe the Trelane one edges close to silliness, though there is a serious character based storyline at its core. Otherwise, that season still consisted of largely serious episodes.
