I still think this is actually the best episode of the season. The crossover and musical are the two best of the series.

Now for unwatchable episodes in the franchise: Code of Honour, Rascals, The Perfect Mate.

Yes I can forgive Threshold for being goofy fun, and Fair Haven/Spirit Folk are a charming feelgood duology.

I don't see how.
The "humor" that does nothing but fall flat and treats femininity as being based upon irrationality, emotional excess and sexual manipulation. Fellow BBSer KRAD gave the episode a much-deserved "zero".

He calls it "An absolute blight on the entire Star Trek landscape." -- and he is correct.

The same type of embarrassing stereotypical biological essentialism that says all Vulcans act like this just because of how they were born. The cringe-worthy "humor" and embarrassing and cringe-worthy character moments. To each their own.

I went on in far more detail in this thread the night the episode dropped, but Four and a Half Vulcans is truly the shits. It feels like a filmed and extremely underbaked first draft script. It assassinates multiple characters, and the biological essentialism angle is offensive in the extreme. It's something that I'm utterly baffled that Star Trek writers in this era are clueless enough to keep trying to pull.

I can write off older episodes doing outmoded shit like this purely because it was a different era with different standards. I cannot give a show made in 2025 the same benefit of the doubt.

A-yup. There is absolutely a difference between this episode and other episodes that aged badly.

There is no biological essentialism in this episode.

The Vulcan’ized crew acting that way has to do with Spock’s experiences, Una says as much in her Log. It has nothing to do with them being biologically Vulcan.

It really should have been made clearer instead of being relegated to a single Log line.

There absolutely is, from the four Enterprise crewman becoming "better" Vulcans than Spock because of the DNA infusion, to La'An becoming more Romulan-esque (aggressive and suspicious) because of her Augment DNA, which is expressly mentioned in the script.

It's not hard to miss.

Please read my entire post.
Dialogue in the episode refutes your first point.

You added the rest after I'd quoted you.

Either way, it's made very obvious with the angle the writers took with La'An. Biological essentialism in the episode not subtext, it's right there in the text.

Una's log is a clear ADR fix they attempted after folks reacted immensely negatively to the preview clip.

There are also two real full Vulcans in the episode that act nothing like how the crew acting.

Batel’s boss doesn’t act all high and mighty.

And Doug is just Doug.
