For me I went into the movie having never seen the show so it didn't impact me like it has others. Now A few years ago I did watch the old show. I still feel basically the same. As for the show I thought it was good but started loose steam in the later seasons. They went from dealing with international crimes to American gangsters every week it seemed.

I mean, people did get upset about what Batman Forever and Batman and Robin did to Keaton's Batman, despite being new actors.

He might do it. I think he might actually be happy with lots of what he has acquired. Taylor Sheridan being a big one. He also has the rights to Mission Impossible,Top Gun and Transformers. He already got ride of Colbert and all the money wasted on carrying a dead format show. People have liked most of what Kurtzman has done that wasn't Section 31 and Discovery. He can bring in a big movie director for a Trek movie. Let Kurtzman just do the tv stuff.

Or he could clean house with most of their talent except Taylor Sheridan and I assume a strong desire to work with Tom Cruise and bring in all brand new people.

Well, that narrows it down.

Clearly a pickup at mid-season 4 me, but somewhat uneven.

You could still define it as something called a soul in Star Trek without it actually being one. Katra was very controversial when STIII came out.

Yeah, don't remember any controversy per se. Sure, you're going to trigger some fans with any new concept in Trek and make them post screeds on how both the franchise and basic science have been slandered in the most recent movie or episode, but that's just any old day of the week with Trekkies.

It's not like "soul" transfers hadn't been used in TOS. "Return To Tomorrow" "Turnabout Intruder" But Trekkies are known for their selective memories.

The whole foundation of the plot of the last episode of TOS was life energy transference from one physical body to another. How is that NOT a soul or spirit? Trekkies are the most selectively outraged nerds on the planet.

They literally moved Picards "Soul" from his old "Biological Body" into the new "Golem Body".

So it's portable to a limited degree, in the right situations & circumstances.
