It's astonishing how good writing and Beltran doing voice acting work from a booth made Chakotay INTERESTING. Prodigy saved the character, albeit almost 20 years too late.

I’m still woefully depressed that PRO got canceled. It was a wonderful show with such amazing and untapped potential. I hope one day it can return, but sadly I think it won’t.

Spock still moved around, saved the ship and had his memories, which means the Katra transfer was either a copy, or there will still some sort of link to McCoy after the meld.
