Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

They may have been hedging their bets. Yes ST:SNW got it's S4 renewal order during S3 production; but at the time the writing room did the season 3 overview/outline of what stories/where, they didn't know they were greenlit for S4.

Which sounds to me like S4 will be the last, if they were worried that the show would be cancelled at the end of S3. How much production has actually started on S4?

There's also the possibility that at any time, Paramount could simply have them cease production. And if post-production isn't finished for SFA by that time, that's another problem. (Although I'm fairly certain it will be fine, but anything past the first season is now in doubt.)

Um, once they got the green light they did the normal Pre-Production for SNW S4. And S4 is actually filming right now.

Why aren't they talking about the filming of S4? Because in 10 weeks SNW S3 is being (finally) released to Streaming; so yeah, they want and need to focus on promoting that.

I don't get any kind of 'the end' vibes from having that as a title. It could just be a familiar phrasing thematically appropriate to the episode, certainly if that is the centennary one.

It's interesting the first sneak peak we were treated to was that late in the series.

I'm predicting Through the Lens of Time will be a La'an episode and that she will be progressing into becoming a temporal agent which is how they eventually do away with her in time for her to have no need to be on the Enterprise during Kirk's libido era.

There was a Star Trek movie called The Final Frontier, and I never believed it was going to be the end of the TOS movies.

And yet it was almost their swan song. It showed the producers that these people could no longer viably keep playing these characters. So they opted to end the TOS movie franchise by allowing them the dignity of one more film to end on an high note instead of killing the whole thing after the abysmal reaction to TFF.

It’s not unheard of to cease production during filming. I doubt that’s what’s going to happen here, but I’m guessing that S4 is it.

Uh, yeah, I’m aware of that. What does that have to do with my feeling that S4 will be the last season?

Hey, for a guy who didn't like season 2, I reckon I was being fairly positive!

I didn't say any of the episodes would be bad, I just said one would be worse. Which is entirely subjective I know, but certain episodes tend to fall to the bottom of people's rankings.
Why I don't rank.

;)

"KEEP THAT DAMN KIRK GUY OFF MY SHIP FOR MORE THAN A WEEK, WILL YOU?!?!?"

Yes, the last thing people would want to do is promote the *checks notes* upcoming season.

Episode 10's title gives me an end of series vibe.

Or the end of the Prime timeline. Perhaps my idea of the show breaking off into a new separate timeline will happen. New Life, means Pike gets a new life with a different future which means more civilizations for him to explore as he continues on as Captain of the Enterprise. Or might have something to do with that holodeck stuff we saw in the trailers.

I hate to say it, but thanks to the strike and the long wait between seasons, it's seriously dampened my enthusiasm for the upcoming episodes. I might just wait until the first reviews are in to decide whether or not to reactivate my subscription to Paramount+.

Not me. I can't wait for the new season to start.

I used to cancel the subscription between seasons, but I now also find it good for Ghosts, Mobland, and the firehose of multiple Taylor Sheridan series.

Indeed. They really do seem to have succeeded in going for that retro-futuristic vibe without getting quagmired down into the trappings of retro-cheese.

It's a monofilament line they walk, but somehow actually make it work. :)

The shuttle in that zombie poster has very TOS looking nacelles

The padd appears to have a diagram of the Enterprise-G on it. I think it might be taken from this fan site?

More promotional material.

So, I think I've figured out the reasoning behind why each poster has each particular character.

Pike and Una: The two command officers
Scotty and Pelia: The two engineers
Spock and Chapel: They're a couple, sort of
Uhura and Ortegas: Two bridge officers

But why are La'an and M'Benga together? They both have apostrophes in their names? The only two who couldn't be thematically paired with one of the others?
