Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

"Bread and Circuses," but no timeframe was established, only that it had the highest death toll of Earth's three World Wars.

Yeah, it's always hard to square the circle here, because TOS was barely even concerned with continuity from episode to episode. It really was intended to just be a loose anthology with a common cast/set to keep budgetary costs down, until Gene Coon started coming up with the framework of background worldbuilding for the show.

There were maybe a handful of cases across the entirety of TOS where little things were referenced from prior episodes - most notably the Treaty of Organia was referenced in The Trouble with Tribbles. But most things that happened in a given episode were considered throwaway concepts, never to be addressed again.

If only they knew.

The Organian Peace Treaty. Corbomite. The Horta and Janus VI. Eminiar VII. At least one Starfleet Admiral or Commodore showed up twice on Kirk's tabletop viewscreen. There were some throwback references, but not many.

Had the pleasure of meeting both Melissa Navia and Anson Mount last weekend at FedCon in Bonn, Germany. And they are honestly both an incredible delight to be around. They told us they had been flying over from filming the final episode of season three, which was exciting to hear. Obviously they weren’t able to tell us much of anything about the coming episodes, but they dropped a couple of hints during their panel, like there being an episode where Ortegas gets a lot of fighting and shouting to do. And Anson Mount teased that if we thought the musical episode was out there, we should wait for a particular episode in season three which apparently isn’t as much of a stunt as “Subspace Rhapsody” but certainly much stranger.

Prompted by a fan question from the audience Melissa got pretty emotional talking about Ortegas’ storyline in “Among the Lotus Eaters” and how she channeled her own anxieties and imposter syndrome into it, but also how it was filmed during the time when she mourned the recent death of her husband. And Anson was super inspirational talking about being in his 50s now and how he realized there’s less time in front of him than behind him and how that changed his outlook on life and his approach to the acting jobs he’s taking.

(No idea why I’m making that odd face in the photo with Anson. Was just super nervous, I guess.)

Damn, you look up "chiseled" in the dictionary you're gonna find a picture of Anson Mount's face.
Definitely. He’s an incredibly handsome man, even up close. There was an audience question about his diet, fitness and skincare routine, to which he replied with “Skincare routine, what’s that?”

He added that he’s basically just eating healthy and admitted to paying for a personal trainer, because having someone making workout appointments for him to keep is the only way for him to stay active. He also said his doctor told him that his running days are over at his age.
