Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

And two of those four episodes were alternate timeline Kirks that aren't technically the same man.

Kirk IS of the era SNW takes place in, so yeah...why not show Lt. Kirk and more of his character journey? I love the way they've woven his story so far. YMMV.
Because, as irrational as it is, I want to see Pike. I don't want to think about Jim Kirk, or his future mission. I want Pike to stand on his own two feet and go through this journey. It's not Kirk's journey right now to show.

Has it been inoffensive in it's woven in to the overall story. Sure. That doesn't make it any more palatable to me because my interest is Pike. That's it.

They’ve used him to highlight and develop the main cast Pike, La’an and Uhura have all benefited from having Kirk as a “sounding board”. Next season it might be Spock’s turn. (Fingers crossed for Axanar. ;). )

I wouldn't mind hearing Pike and crew discuss or at least refer to Kirk's early encounter with the dikironium cloud creature.

You're seeing some competition or slight where there is none.

As a character, Kirk remains opaque - like his brother. No story so far "looks over his shoulder," so to speak, or assumes his character's point of view or voice. This is an important difference between a series core character and a recurring or supporting character who's placed in the story to illuminate and motivate more important characters by their interactions.

Competition or slight? No. Annoyance? Yes.

Totally irrational and I'll own that. But I won't hide my irritation either.
