Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

GEN has some of the most beautiful music of the entire movie franchise and that includes TMP and all three Kelvin Timeline films. Dennis McCarthy's work on that movie is sublime.
No, this is Sublime

Watched Uncommon Valor last night. They go into combat and there's that four note horn motif followed by a kind of countdown beat. Enterprise fleeing the Mutara nebula. Looked it up and of course it was Horner.

Supposedly Cameron was pretty passed off about this kind of thing after Aliens. Apparently dude got over it.

By Titanic his work definitely carried a different overall sound.
I remember back when Titanic was popular, my mother was obsessed with the movie's soundtrack and had the cassette of it playing in the car all the time. One time my uncle was with us. It took him less than a minute to say "this is a James Horner soundtrack, isn't it?"

Admittedly, Titanic's most distinctive musical cues are the same as used in the instrumental part of the Celine Dion song, which is different enough from Horner's usual sound, but his distinctive signature is still present in other music throughout the movie.

Really? I am sure Horner said Cameron hired him, saying he loved the Wrath of Khan score and gave Horner about 3 days (exaggeration) to turn the score round and every note Horner got from Cameron was it wasn’t right he wanted something more like TWOK.
Not that Horner didn’t self-plagiarise prolifically. I once did a film studies assignment on it and whether it would qualify Horner for the composer equivalent of auteur theory (got a good mark, even though even I knew it was a very tenuous premise)

I’ve been wondering on what the holdup is on it too. I’ve been wanting to grab the main title song.

Looks like we have an actual ratings for the top rated shows of the year 2022. SNW is not on the list, despite all the constant weekly hype that it is one of the most streamed show of the week.

Stranger things top the chart. to many surprises The Boys was the highest rated comic book show beaten out marvel shows. SNW is barely rated, I do wonder how much viewers this show has. paramount is always spinning that the show is the most streamed show but it looks like it is not related to the bigger regular bubble. it is only rated high in the paramount universe.

Going into 2022, it felt as if Star Trek with SNW was winning the sci-fi war against Disney Obiwan but Andor has managed to outclass SNW. Andor got better ratings and more mainstream award nomination and better artistic acclaim.

I wonder what paramount will need to do in 2023 to attract more viewers for season 2 and get more real hype. Picard is ending after 3 seasons. discovery ending after 5 seasons. won't be surprised if SNW does not get a season 3 and if they did, season 3 may be the final season.

You don’t see SNW, PIC DIS, LD, or PRO on the list. But you also don’t see Andor, Obi Wan, Book of Boba Fett or The Orville either.

You do see Criminal Minds (P+), as well as NCIS (a CBS property, but airing on Netflix).

And you do see Stranger Things topping the list, meaning sci fi is actually very popular with the audience. Which makes sense especially after its long hiatus and that Kate Bush song being memed.

Maybe the mainstream audience just does not want to watch either a Star Trek show, or such shows actively compete against Star Trek (SW, Orville).

Oh no. Whatever will we do? /deadpan
