But for gods' sake, we're two episodes in already and I don't think the catch-all abracadabra term "anomaly" has passed a character's lips. I hope noticing it doesn't jinx it.
Episode 1 La'an says "the anomaly is a red flag" during the scene on the bridge where she's trying to convince Pike to raise shields. There is no escape

Well, at least it wasn't a space anomaly...

I thought they were saying "variance" a lot in this one...

So sounds like we’re getting NEW EDEN 2.0. this week

“While on a survey mission, the U.S.S. Enterprise discovers a comet is going to strike an inhabited planet. They try to re-route the comet, only to find that an ancient alien relic buried on the comet’s icy surface is somehow stopping them. As the away team try to unlock the relic’s secrets, Pike and Number One deal with a group of zealots who want to prevent the U.S.S. Enterprise from interfering.”

Or "For the World Is Hollow and I Have Touched The Paradise Syndrome" ;)

Not the first planet Starfleet's had to try to save from both expected disaster and religious zealotry at the same time, to be sure...nor will it be the last...

All right guys. I had to wade through all of this junk. If you don't like a thread for whatever reason, JUST SKIP IT.

Jeez. There's more drama here than used to be in my home when I had 3 teenagers.

Sounds like Masks 2.0 as far as a relic in a comet or Deja Q 2.0 as far as a celestial body heading for a planet.

Some folks on the BBS have seen this episode. So there's no harm in starting a spoiler topic for them to discuss it.

It may be worth mentioning that those of us with press access to the preview screeners also have to abide by an embargo on discussing details til the day it airs - so I can vote but not tell you what bits I loved or hated to reach that score...

Thanks. I guess I should have realized that the embargo would be episode-by-episode.

Here's a Video preview of SNW Ep. 2:

Let me say this is one of the most beautiful science -fiction titles in a while...
I´ll be back in a couple of days when I see it.

Those super filled threads are fun & exciting when they're developing live.
They're not so fun anymore once they're a week old, the discussion has completely derailed, and the most recent five pages are filled with trolls complaining about "woke propaganda" and douchebags telling everyone with the smallest criticism to "just don't watch it", and barely anyone even talking about the episode itself anymore. Kind of what's happening now already.

To try to close on something actually episode-related:
I'm really looking forward to this episode. From the trailers out of the first two episodes, this one looks like the more exciting one. But I'm glad they started with the other one first, which was more of a good (re-) introduction to the Trek formula. And then follow up with this one (hopefully) being a more non-traditional one.
Just use time stamps to see when the new posts begin after airing and consider this pre chatter ignorable. Obviously there will be an influx of posts beginning early Thursday morning by those who have just watched it.

With an actual embargo on place my grievances about this thread are actually 100% gone.

What I don't like is a spoiler-filled discussion where most haven't had a chance to see it yet, and very few are already discussing the definite product. Kind of what's happening anyway because of the lack of international distribution (Shame on you, Paramount!)

Having a thread open early & speculating what this episode might be about, what you're looking forward to etc. based on trailers and only vague hints from people who have seen it already is actually quite enjoyable :techman:

OK, without specifics, I'll say: I thought it was visually gorgeous. A character subtext is woven really well through the episode to the extent that it bears a couple of viewings to get. It felt to me a bit DS9/Voyager era-ish as much as TOS-ish.

There is a probably unintentional Dr Who callback that may be entirely coincidental or in my imagination, that almost nobody will get anyway even if it's real and intentional, which I do not know.

You know what the absolute worst part of this episode is?

... I won't be able to see it until Sunday.:sigh:
