Spoilers Strange New Worlds jumps the shark... ("Subspace Rhapsody")

True... but it was the 893rd episode of Star Trek overall.

Assuming SNW Seasons 4 and 5 are the last Trek episodes ever, the franchise will have a total of 1006 episodes.
977 episodes, actually.

TOS=80
TAS=22
TNG=178
DS9=176
VOY=172
ENT=98
DISCO=65
PICARD=30
PRODIGY=40
LDS=50
SNW=46 (after seasons 4 and 5 end)
SFA=20 (after season 2 ends)

I think the 1006 number is every Trek story, including movies, very Short Treks and Scouts, counting things like Encounter at Farpoint and Flesh and Blood as one story.

Hang on, that's 1016. Hmm.

Which is the episode where they have to rescue Chappel in space? I think she uses a flashlight but the batteries die which I found hilarious

Still, if here's where Trek finally dies, it's had a great run.
This is where I'm at and I'm weirdly okay with it. I guess the extended mourning period knowing the shows are all ending and a reboot is on the horizon have made it a little easier. No sudden shock cancellations.

If some billionaire nepo baby wants to get into bed with trump and make his own star trek in name only then my bag of fucks is depleted. I have hundreds and hundreds of episodes, several films and games and an irrepressible ability to headcanon.

I will be fine and I'll save a few quid not needing to subscribe to paramount plus ever again.

I'd love watching new episodes of Trek until I die, but that's not happening in this world or would have ever happened. There's other franchises out there or new ones soon to be. Fringe, Battlestar Galactica, Farscape, Lexx and so many more. There's plenty out there to rewatch or watch for the first time. Might even try watching all of VOY & ENT in order. But P+ won't see a dime of mine if Star MAGA becomes their flagship series.

There was plenty of character driven change in the episode.

-Pike learns to deal with emotional honesty instead of resisting it.

-Number One shows a stronger sense of belonging, no longer hiding who she is after her trial.

-La’an allows herself to be vulnerable and openly express her feelings, which is a big step for her.

-Spock realizes that leaning into emotion has consequences, pushing him back toward the discipline we associate with his future self.

-Chapel chooses her career and personal growth over the relationship, asserting her independence.

-Uhura leans into her strengths in communication and problem-solving, playing a key role in resolving the crisis.

So yeah, there’s a lot more going on there than just the musical gimmick.

Totally agree. I had assumed the musical episode would not progress the season's story arcs, but if you chose to skip this ep., you'd be really missing out.

I just replayed the Chapel and Spock songs linked in the thread and I was enthralled all over again. I had forgotten that they were essentially the same song. Loved the singing, the music, and the tragic realisation of a relationship ending/evolving, all over again.

Well be a shame if we all just agreed. I'm glad everyone has different thoughts and opinions. I liked the song Christina Chong did in the show.

Didn't she release that one as a commercial version also, not Trek related?

IIRC, she has released an album or two. I think one was a Christmas album.
