Spoilers Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

My theory is she would be facing less criticism if they had made her just the dean of college and didn't also try and make her a Starship Captain also.
You'd still be getting the same people complaining. Indeed, there are already complaints on this very forum about how she's supposedly unsuitable to run a school just based on things like she encouraged the cadets to prank the War College students back or just because she likes to take her shoes off.
We have some legitimate Tellarites on this board who just argue for the sake of arguing.
I'm pretty sure were an actual Tellarite to look over this forum, there are some posters they'd just say "dude, you're being unnecessarily argumentative right now."

Listen, I'm not gonna tell the fans how to respond to anything. If you watch [Fissure Quest] you can see the timelines across different realities are all messed up. Was I being a little stinker with that moment and knowing what I was doing? Yeah. I’m not dumb. It’s also not firmly [established]–another multiversal shift we saw is it turned into a Klingon sail barge. You can take that moment however you want, and talk to me about it in ten years [smiles].

Have really enjoyed the first three episodes so far. We can assume Daniels was correct when he said the Klingons joined the Federation by the 31st century. However, and I know they are just rebuilding the Federation - it would be great if they could give some hints of the galactic powers and their status in this century. All is fuzzy.

I actually think that is what Caleb is set up to be. He has lots of action man to him that you sort of expect out of a Captain. I think that is why he is the shows lead. Holly Hunter is basically there to be the adult parent figure that gets him to reach his full potential. While his friends also become his brothers and sisters.

Eh, I don't know if he's necessarily geared to be a Captain. If our core group of cadets were given command of ship, I reckon it would be:

Genesis as Captain, with Darem as her First Officer.

Jay-Den as Chief Medical Officer.

Tarima as Chief of Security.

SAM as Chief Science Officer.

Caleb as Chief Engineer (and everyone's booty call ;)).

And Ocam would be the redshirt who gets killed on the very first away mission.

My guess would be -

Captain Caleb Mir
First Officer/Tactical B'avi
Medical Jay-Den Kraag
Chief Engineer SAM

Put in randoms like Holloway and Djokovic at CONN and OPS.

Genesis would be to obvious IMO. Seems to me the more interesting thing to do is have a character find a new purpose than the one they had when joining. She wants to be Captain. She becomes Captain. Doesn't seem all that interesting of a arc. Also one of them needs to be killed. The message needs to be made that exploring space is dangerous and people will die. In fact I people die a lot in Starfleet. That is one of the prices that come with the job. It's not just about having fun and meeting cool aliens. It comes with danger and responsibility and also your ethics will be challenged at points and even broken.
