Spoilers Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

Say what you will about Disco's writing in general, but the character of Jett Reno has always been written and performed extremely well.
I think they are also allowed to do a bit of freeforming and adaptation during filming, in a way that was never allowed in the Berman era. Actors couldn't even change or contract a word without it going up the chain for a rewrite. I think that helps with allowing more of Tig's style to bleed through.

I thought that was odd, too. I know it’s supposed to be a light comedic moment, but the way the doctor even says “Already?” makes it sound like it’s a common occurrence. Maybe they are somehow delicious?

And I suppose they weren’t able to be too picky for this first class of the Academy in 100 years or so. ;)

Earth had a Starfleet even when the Vulcans had them locked down to one system for a century, so they probably still had a Starfleet after the Burn, after all their ships blew up and Warp culture became unfeasible.

They seemed to rename it the United Earth Defence Force. Or just Earth Defence Force. Or just EDF.

I can only therefore assume General Ndoye was a wing diver.

Could be a game: One piece of cake has an SFA badge hidden in it. :D
Or a challenge: How many badges can you fit in your mouth (or something similarly stupid) :D

Research facilities & universities wouldn't have warp cores for weapons or travel. They would have full or partial real warp cores for scientific & technological research. And they would have dilithium on site, to power their experimental reactors, for research & improvement, or whatever. And it was ultimately the dilithium that exploded.

Like if today suddenly all gasoline would explode - you would not only lose everyone driving a car right now. You would also lose all workshops, all car manufacturing sites, the whole oil drilling industry, every garage tinkerer and every vehicle construction engineer and professor at the same time. Building the next, first functional car after that would take decades.

Fair point, though I imagine most of the information they have is stored far enough away. Still I would imagine a lot of matter-antimatter explosions would leave the earth and other planets torn to pieces.

It would not takes decades, we would have a car created within a year. I bet plenty of car manufacturing plants would also be just fine. I imagine it would take a 5 years to get a new fuel source out there. All the data to to make them would be just fine on servers somewhere. I'm not sure why you think all these places keep massive amounts of fuel near them.

Starbases used fusion reactors not Matter/Anti-Matter.

Also, Earth's planetary shield in Discovery wasn't even a fraction as strong as the planetary shield in Picard, so there's that.
I'm guessing that's possible, but the shields and weapons on ships ran off the warp core. I do not remember what it was in disco, I do not think they were hit by any fleets to see how tough it really is.
