Spoilers Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

Sorry you werent able to figure out what the typos were supposed to be. Im using my phone. But I fixed it for you to make it easier on you. Still saying typos are the equivalent of someone swallowing a large comm badge is pretty strange dude. Lol. But hey whatever.

I type an overwhelming number of my posts on my phone. I will admit on occasion that I make a mistake. But I typically try to fix them. So please stop making your inability to type about me. It’s just grating on the eyes. Moving on.

Regardless, yes, it is silly. That’s the point. It’s likely nerves. It’s also not the first time there have been questions as to why someone is admitted to the Academy. We know nothing about this character. She might be fucking brilliant and did something stupid. We don’t know. But Reg Barclay might have been a brilliant engineer but he had reality issues and was extremely socially awkward. Beckett Mariner had issues with authority but she eventually figured it out. You can’t judge a character on 10 seconds of screen time.

I thought that was odd, too. I know it’s supposed to be a light comedic moment, but the way the doctor even says “Already?” makes it sound like it’s a common occurrence. Maybe they are somehow delicious?

And I suppose they weren’t able to be too picky for this first class of the Academy in 100 years or so. ;)

Maybe they have food replicators installed in the comm badges as well and she accidentally ate it because she thought it was part of the meal she ordered . Lol

I have very bad vision and am near sighted to boot. Sometimes things get pretty blurry. Sorry.

Maybe she thought it was candy.

Thats a fair point, though I doubt ground facilities would need them unless they needed weapons. i'm not sure if the fusion reactors would be enough for ground shields.

Though that does beg the question. In Picard season 3 we see earth's planetary shield in that battle. If they used dylithium to generate the shield, I would assume that it would be the same 600 years later. I would imagine that would blow a large size chunk out of the earth

Either way my argument is not really between the burn and when disco arrives. It all the years upto the burn.
Research facilities & universities wouldn't have warp cores for weapons or travel. They would have full or partial real warp cores for scientific & technological research. And they would have dilithium on site, to power their experimental reactors, for research & improvement, or whatever. And it was ultimately the dilithium that exploded.

Like if today suddenly all gasoline would explode - you would not only lose everyone driving a car right now. You would also lose all workshops, all car manufacturing sites, the whole oil drilling industry, every garage tinkerer and every vehicle construction engineer and professor at the same time. Building the next, first functional car after that would take decades.

Imaging if Reg Barclay type character appeared now there would be demands he be thrown out of Starfleet.

Not as much as you think.
You want consistency play a Star Trek RPG with rules to your hearts content.

Otherwise, the show is by plot, not rules

No matter how academically smart they are teenagers will still do stupid shit, good test scores don't automatically nullify immaturity.

Red Squad were considered the best of the best and they were the dumbest fuck ups the Academy had ever produced.
And let's talk about a trio of recent Academy graduates being dumb enough to take on a group of Nausicans at Earhart Station.

They let Nick Lorcano in. And Ron Tracey.

Riker, from The Pegasus...

"I was 7 months out of the Academy. My head still ringing with words like 'duty' and 'honor'. When they turned on him, I thought they were a group of disloyal, self-serving officers. So I grabbed a phaser and defended my Captain."

"I wasn't a hero and neither were you. What you did was wrong and I was wrong to support you. I was just too young and stupid to realize it."

So one of the previewd shows a cadet talking to the doctor. She tells him she swallowed he comm badge. Really? I thought starfleet cadets were the best of the best of the best. Somehow she was chewing he comm badege and swallowed it? Yeah she'll make a great captain one day. Lol
They probably let standards slip due to the burn and just take anyone who applies and can pass the basic test now.

Now why sub-space communication went also dark, and people couldn't call other planets anymore?
Now for that I have no explanation. Because after all it was not a thought out idea in the first place.
I may have dreamt this but - lack of repair and maintenance. Happens with radio masts.

Best allegory I have seen on here for a while! Generators too.

I'm still wondering why they are allowing Nahla Ake's nepo-kid in just because he can't find his mum.
