In TFF Kirk wears what looks like a National Park-issued tourist T-shirt with the slogan "Go Climb A Rock" printed on the front. That movie is set in the year 2287. So, are T-shirts with slogans and catchphrases considered obsolete by Star Trek's time and is that shirt an affront to human progress as a society?

That was later acknowledged by the producers as a graphics mistake. It was never meant to say the word "ACADEMY."

Mistake or not what's on the screen is canon. Much like in TOS where GR had said the Delta insignia is supposed to be on everyone's uniform both before and after the costume designers decided to put a different 'logo' on the uniforms of crewmembers from different ships. <--- The latter is what's Cannon and referenced in licensed Games. Books, etc.

In that one he literally says "let's plant the flag" and then goes on to talking about how they were "cleaning up lines" and doing it the way "they" would have done it in the past if they had more time.

Even without him directly stating it though, we have the evidence of multiple "modern" productions to look at with Picard, Strange New Worlds, and Discovery. And those makeup "updates" only exist in the show who's makeups he is in charge of.

Like seriously, it's hilarious how different the Strange New World Orions were from the plastic faced Orion's of Discovery.

Okay, so he's doing literally the exact same thing Robert Fletcher did when he did redesigns of the Klingons for TMP, and subsequent series did when they tweaked Andorians and so on.

Every artist desires to put their own stamp on a thing they work on. Are you completely unfamiliar with the concept of creativity? This is hardly something worth demonizing a single person for.

Brooks had earlier recorded some lines of poetry he wrote for a separate project, and he gave them permission to use it. He didn’t record it specifically for SFA.

I don’t think it was new lines but existing audio from somewhere else. Just in the way they worded the answer.

I guess for some, that would be a cool thing. Rarely does it work well in scifi.

STARGATE UNIVERSE, for example. Their use of contemporary music throughout really brought the show down.

For SciFi in general I find a TOS stye ethereal music is quite fitting, however, Stargate was set in our time, with exceptions of events directly affected by the Gate, their world was our world. Pop culture like Star Trwk is referenced in stargate. Who ever was top of the charts during the time a show ran, would also have been in the Stargate universe. Unless they founded a Tok'ra band or something.


Regarding Universe, I guess I am in the minority of those who liked the show however I do not really remember the music. I did like the Destiny theme. I loved the piano/cello piece used in the final scene.

I liked SGU season 2 a lot. Season 1 took a while to find itself, but by season 2 it really shined.

Yeah the first episodes especially were a slow burn. I started to like it with that episode where Destiny's apparent death spiral into a star was intentional to replenish its's energy reserves. Loved the line "The ship is solar powered. Literally." The ship became more of a character then.

The Russian was also meant to evoke Beatles style and appeal to younger female audience members.

Though I'm trying not to be negative towards this show, I got to be honest, hearing the "Tricorder. Medical tricorder" gag from Caretaker reused made me groan.

Seems very clear cut to me he did not record that specifically for this episode.

None of which is supported by dialogue or anything shown in the show. A zipper is a zipper.

It wasn't a zipper. Point being one show runner decided to have a costume designer attempt to make clothing look like something different than contemporary clothing. Basically styles are going to change after 200 to 300 years. Contrast this with the current show runner who thinks civilian clothing i n 200 to 1200 years is going to look like something off the rack at Walmart of the 21st century.

When did it become the rule that people of the future will wear the same style clothing as people from centuries before? We aren't talking 240 to 374 years here anymore(that was bad enough). We are now talking 1200 years. Its laughable.
