Antimatter has always been able to blow up planets. Kirk and Ensign Garrovick set off a jerry-rigged antimatter bomb that rips away the entire atmosphere of Tycho IV and leaves a giant crater on the surface.

How is any of this new? Trek's been playing this card since the late 1960s.
I mean, that is significantly big difference.

Wow, I guess the fandom has changed since previous seasons when it was fashionable to make fun of her lack of character development. Put me in a nursing home I guess... I'm old and out of touch. I still refuse the tapioca pudding, though.
Its just in ultra defense territory, especially around here.

Well actually it was half of the atmosphere and it was only 1 oz of antimatter in TOS S2 Obsession.

What was used to destroy that planet was a full antimatter fuel cell; meaning there was probably a a larger quantity of antimatter in the cell itself.

Now that right there would have made it a 10/10 right there. Letting the crew deal with the weight on what they have just done. Thats one thing I thought the episode was missing, a couple of sit downs with the senior staff to go over the situation.

The show doesn’t take itself too seriously anymore or at least for much of the season. Muppets coming right up. Lol
