Pike declined to eliminate the human race from history.
That's a toughie.
Okay, it's really not.
He's complicit in the murder of millions of children.

and he would be preventing the existence of trillions of children if he did stop the bomb. He's complicit in the murder of millions of children.
Pike: "Admiral...I have this great new idea for a whole new 'No-Win' scenario simulation. I know what we went through 65 million years ago is Top Secret but hey, no one would believe it and it would really mess with a Cadet's preconceptions of the new Prime Direc..."...As I said last page, it was a no-win scenario...
and he would be preventing the existence of trillions of children if he did stop the bomb.
But Star Trek does both, otherwise the City on the Edge of Forever would not work.Preventing someone's future existence seems pretty different from passively standing by while millions who are already alive get annihilated. Plus, Pike's not really preventing anyone's existence - presumably he would simply be creating a new timeline. The old timeline where humanity develops wouldn't go anywhere. The only downside is that iteration of the Enterprise crew would be stuck in the "no humans" timeline -- a small price to pay for saving that entire civilization, isn't it?
That's why I didn't like April's reference to putting things back to how they "should" be. There's no "should" when there are infinite realities.
That is a ridiculous hypothetical based on a lot of assumptions.Pike's not really preventing anyone's existence - presumably he would simply be creating a new timeline. The old timeline where humanity develops wouldn't go anywhere.
Depends on the method of time travel, so far the only one that we know spawns new timelines is temporal wormholes with everything else re-writing history.Preventing someone's future existence seems pretty different from passively standing by while millions who are already alive get annihilated. Ok fair enough.Billions of years ago.
They were billions of years ago.
I'd have enjoyed it if the doctor's genetic analysis had found Martian DNA in the human genome. After all, if they're going to escape to survive, why not go next door WHERE MARTIANS ALWAYS GO?!!!?
Bro, do you even Star Trek?Crap episode. Magical antimatter pods that can blow up planets? "We need the power of a super nova to get home" "Oh wait, a splody planet will work" My eyes have rolled out of their head and fallen to to the floor. I'd rather watch "Spock's Brain" that this episode.
The pseudoscience in this episode was better than the pseudoscience in "Spock's Brain." So, what's your beef?Crap episode. Magical antimatter pods that can blow up planets? We don't know if it would. The old timeline where humanity develops wouldn't go anywhere.
