There are certain films I find deeply traumatizing due to how and when I saw them, his and when I was told I was wrong for not liking them. At s certain point I'm just not going to agree.
They might be well made films; I don't genuinely know because that's not my area of study. I could go on but this isn't the thread for it. Suffice to say, my opinion is not one I am speaking lightly here.

Presumably they invented warp or some form of FTL later since they spread across the galaxy and who knows when they left (presumably before the space dinosaurs from Voyager) but you'd think they'd try at least.
Yeah, or maybe some did and they got wiped out. But these sort of time travel stories kind of don't stand up to scrutiny.
I guess another thought is that the Martians are pre-warp, but don't seem surprised or phased to see a completely unknown ship and aliens... unless other warp-capable species have shown up and just taken off later.
I haven’t seen it yet. Even though Trek time travel rarely holds up to scrutiny, it seems that they are usually entertaining.

Speaking of which those time cops we see in Voyager on the USS Relativity mention Voyager being in their records far too often, I wonder what they would make of the Enterprise in all its incarnations or the Discovery

Not clicking that. "Biggest secret" my six. Starfleet has done time travel multiple times, including Earth's beginning of life, first contact with the Vulcans, preventing nuclear war (once though), so on.

Several things. First, NO bringing up "piracy," not even when one supposedly cleverly cloaks it. That is a big no-no on the BBS and you guys know it. Next time I see it, I'll warn for it, We don't need the wrath of Paramount brought down on us and yes, they do watch.
Item two - This is the SNW forum, not Gen Trek Discussion, movies, or whatever. Given that SNW is now airing again, let's please keep to the topic of SNW - and leave comparisons with other shows in Gen Trek Discussion. Some TOS crossover is inevitable and that's OK, but I don't give a flying fuck about past beefs about Kurtzman and the past, OK? I have to read all of this and it's busy, busy, busy. That's a good thing, but not when it's filled with junk that shouldn't be here. We've slacked on this as mods when things were quiet, but it's time to tighten up again. Thanks for your cooperation.
Third - the usual. Let's not fight with each other. It's OK to disagree about an episode - actions of a character, how you feel about the episode, etc. Perfectly fine. It's a fun TV show. If you're getting pissy about it with your fellow posters, please log off and come back when you're in a better mood. Your blood pressure will thank you for this.
Finally, enjoy the show! We waited long enough. My husband watched it and came out and said "Dinosaurs!" It's good to have fans eager to watch Trek.

Well many of us argue that these two are connected: it's reinvented itself too far, so that's why it'll dwindle.
It's like a new flavour of chocolate. It creates interest. If the new flavour of chocolate is actually a fish stew you think "Is it still chocolate?"
Rewatching the episode right now. It's even better on a rewatch.
And that in itself is an imporant fact.
A lot of Star Wars' ongoing success was attributed to the fans of the originals took their kids to see the new new trilogy and thus passed on the baton. Much like sports fans get their kids into the same sport I guess.
My issue with Picard was a parent couldn't do that with the gruesome scenes and swearing. Discovery I think was typically 12 to 15 rated. SNW is probably the one that is most family friendly.
But in their pursuit to be darker and nastier, they effectively cut off their own legs in terms of introducing new fans to the franchise by families passing it down.
I think in this day and age a parent being able to give some hope to a kid in this bleak fucking climate would be a really good selling point.
