I wonder if the original version of the story as intended for a full season by Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt was somewhat more coherent, but that's a question we'll probably never get answered. Just like whatever the pre-pandemic version of Picard season 2 really was.

The creatives suck and they don't know what the fuck they are doing.
And as a result of that Paramount knows these shows aren't bringing in any new viewers.
That's why every NuTrek show has been prematurely canceled with lower episode counts than any classic Trek.
