Cool to know. So as an Earth standard, it was probably adapted by Betazed for use in non-verbal, non-telepathic communication.

BSL got legally recognised in the UK as an official language in 2022 (alongside English and Welsh). That status creates a whole lot of legal mandates for accessibility and use, and may grow the language in future years. About 2/3rds of speakers identify it as their first language, the remainder are either hearing users, or deaf users who have other primary means (spoken word, lipreading, auditory amplification etc) they use toutinely.

I don’t get why they are doing sign language. They’re betazoids. They can just read their thoughts.

Perhaps but why do other Betazoids need to do sign language with him?
In the case of his daughter, it was explicitly explained.

In the case of others... perhaps their culture now demands observances of external communication?

Perhaps it's even related to their wall?

Personally, I find the layers interesting, whatever their reasons.

The daughter just said she has it turned down. She should still be able to do so.
Why were they so rude to the Exocomp at the beginning? I don’t want another Peanut Hamper happening.

She called it a "neuro-inhibitor." Inhibitor means something that slows down or stops a chemical reaction altogether. They didn't really spell out what it meant for her abilities, but the way they were talking it sounded like she was handicapped by it. YMMV.

I took it to mean her abilities were heightened and this toned it down.
They kept referring to them as empaths when they are telepaths. Troi was only an empath because she was half human as well.

Yeah, most anti-anxiety medications are called SSRI - or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

i'm enjoying the show so far. Another 8 out of 10. The young characters are better than i expected . Caleb and Tarima actually is very sweet. The show has heart.

The adults are all great too. Really liking seeing Doctor , Jett, and Vance again, and Holly Hunter and Gina Yashere are great.

I'm loving all the easter eggs, name drops , and returning species!
