Oh, and I almost forgot.

The series of events make no sense, they set off from Bajor on a 15 hour trip to Earth, hours passed, and the ship is around the Badlands? Lol what? They would have been around 40ly away from the Badlands by then.

Your constant nit picking is infuriating.

Warp has always moved at the speed of plot. This is not new, it goes all the way back to 1966.

Why do you keep watching these shows if all you’re going to do is complain?

Go get a hobby. I suggest taking up knitting, it’s pretty relaxing.

Sorry, you dont get to use that excuse here.

Because they directly said in episode that it would take 15 hours to go from Bajor to Earth.

I canceled Paramount Plus for personal reasons but decided to check out the free premiere on youtube.

I turned it off when the overacting villain showed up and haven't felt the urge to continue. I find the Doctor's state in the show pretty depressing to be honest. He had big dreams in Voyager to move beyond his programming, explore humanity as much as he could despite being a hologram, and so on. 800 years later and he's still doing Starfleet stuff on Starfleet ships, not really different than his routine on Voyager. I would've thought he would've moved on over the centuries. He seems pretty jaded too. For all his talk about holographic freedom in Voyager, I find it depressing that 800 years later he's basically a slave to the same old Starfleet routine, the very routine I sensed he wanted to escape in Voyager.

It's possible, even likely, that no one's keeping him there forcefully and he just found nothing better to do in his life, but that in itself is also a pretty depressing concept.

A solid 9 for me. That was a strong opener.

Initial thoughts in no particular order: It is so surreal seeing Holly Hunter in a starfleet uniform. Great performances all round from Hunter, Giamatti and Maslany. Gina Yashere has to be my favourite and I feel like she is definitely channeling her formidable nigerian mother in her performance as Throk.

The Athena is a beautiful ship and it was great to see it in action and winning it's first battle. I also thought it was cool to see Bajor again and seeing how prominent a federation world it has become. Hopefully we get to visit again and maybe go through the wormhole.

I like all the cadets, I think the young actors did a solid job. As an autistic person I definitely feel an affinity to Sam. Also, with the information that Jay-den is queer, i couldn't help but notice a hint of possible attraction from jay-den towards Caleb in some of their interactions.

Honorable mention to Robert Picardo as The Doctor. It was so wonderful to see him again and so comfortable back in the role.

The 32nd century warp effect remains the coolest in the franchise. Althought it's interesting that the pathway drive doesn't appear to be a thing anymore. Unless they've integrated it into warp drive.

The Venari Ral, seem nothing more than pirates, but I wonder if they are actually more powerful than they appear. I get the feeling they are going to be an example of the results of the Federation being unable to effectively police the galaxy and being insular and complacement post-burn.

Also I can see the way Ake owns the big chair as pissing some people off. But i personally loved it.

All in all it's fun to be back in the 32nd century

It's only been minutes since they set off from Bajor to Earth, where did you get the concept that "Hours passed"?
I literally calculated the exact moment they went to warp and when they got out of warp.
10 minutes 46 seconds have passed by in real time.

They also stated that the Anomaly was just outside of the Badlands.

According to my Galactic Map, Earth to Bajor is ~ 3803 ly away on the 2D map.
To get there in 15 hours, the USS Athena would need to travel somewhere between Warp Factor ~80-81 on my Updated TNG Warp Factor Scale (No hand drawn curve to infinity past Warp 9).
All very believable numbers using 31st Century Warp Drives.
While you're correct in that they would be ~45.2 light years along their journey, they would still be outside the periphery of the Badlands, especially given the size & scale of the Badlands.

It could actually be an Academy Class ship.
There's a Janeway quote she told Naomi once, and the trolley in sickbay seems to be the one from TNG.

It was alright. Enjoyable but nothing amazing. Still not a fan of 32nd century set design. Just looks incredibly bland with no personality.
I did like that it had a proper 16:9 aspect ratio. I hate those tv shows that have movie ratios. Just so pointless.
How on earth is there a Lokai there? There were only two left and they were both male.

I need to think about my feelings on the first two episodes... but I will say I REALLY hate the slang in this. It's like they took the dialogue that I hated from Discovery and just amped it up to 11. Why would people a thousand years from now even know what an unpaid dating coach is?

Well, it's Nu-Trek as expected. I wish the villain weren't as cartoonish. I'll keep watching. Maybe it'll pick up, and I'll feel a connection to a character.

Clone? Time-travel? Android that adopted the form? Descendent of a unknown colony? Similar evolutionary result with no relation whatsoever?

I enjoyed it.

I loved that we got a prodigy reference but worried about what happened to Gwyn as the doctor was clearly saddened by hearing her name.

Just watched the 1st 2 episodes.

From its announcement years ago all the fans have moaned it's going to be Star Trek 90210 teen angst melodrama. Plus it's a spinoff of the awful Star Trek: Discovery.
So I went in with low expectations. And I was wrong to, because it was absolutely bloody brilliant. So funny and charming. Yes it has a focus on teenagers, duh. But also has a good adult cast that mix well. It looks phenomenal, as good as any movie. And it should do for the cost of each episode. The story was interesting, and it is a multi arc series with stand alone episodes, making it similar to DS9 (the best trek series).
I had reservations about Holly Hunter as the captain from the clips I'd seen. However, she was really good in the role. I really am surprised by how well it all came together. I feared the show would be style over substance, but the writing is very good. Some of the teen dialogue was a bit cheesy. Who still says "bite me" in 2026- never mind the 32nd century?
Some cute and funny characters and some hot male male actors. Great to see the EMH and Jet Rino back in Trek. Lots of easter eggs without going overboard. The ship Athena looks good. Not my favourite design, but it's cool. The sets are outstanding, especially the massive set where they all congregate.

For a pilot episode setting out the foundation of the series it did it really well. It's not my favourite setup for a new series, but it does it so well I have to give a 10/(902)10 .
