A little suliban is credited

The song is by Rufus Wainwright, I certainly have to get that one!
Hm all your images are showing up as ‘uploading this content requires registration’ they worked about 10 minutes ago.

Based on the context, I think the War College replaced Starfleet academy during the Burn. Probably a result of trying to survive the changed galaxy

Quite enjoyed that premiere! Loved the character interactions. The sets are gorgeous. Looks like this is gonna be a helluva lot of fun.

Can’t wait to watch the rest somehow later, because I’m not subscribing to Paramount+ again.

Wait till the final week, and use a different email address and card, to subscribe for the free week. Seemed to work for me when I did it for s31

I'm giving this a 6

It did exceed my expectations a little, but I want to give it more time before I'm fully onboard. I think my issue with this so far is some of the dialog is not all that great and Sam reminds me too much of late Season Discovery Tilly, which isn't entirely a compliment. I did like Giamatti's character and Caleb is interesting so far. I think I need a little more convincing of Acke as a captain as the way she used the captain's chair like a sofa was really noticeable. I also liked the music and the use of the song at the end was pretty cool.

What character did Tatiana Maslany play again? Was she the Mother?

Overall, I did like what I saw and while it's too late to jump into the next episode, it was a pretty decent start.

Gave it an 8.

It's so far removed from TOS that this old Trekkie isn't loving everything about it, but it wasn't horrible.

It'll probably grow on me eventually, but I don't think it's going to be a Trek show that, for me anyway, is going to get more than one viewing.
<shrug>

I just watched the first episode. I think it's fine. It's its own flavor of Star Trek. The first act in particular is very strong. The rest works too. I didn't check my watch or get up to do anything else. That's always a good sign.

Do I think it'll be my absolute favorite Star Trek thing ever? No. But it's far from my being my least favorite Star Trek. It's a Hell of a lot better Section 31, and I personally like it better than Strange New Worlds and the JJ Abrams films. It didn't bore me to death like Enterprise either. People who don't like it because they "made it woke!," that's just your politics speaking. The show is fine.

That's all I'm going to say. The rest will have to wait for until we get to the fifth episode in a few weeks. No offense, but I'd like to enjoy this series away from here.

If you want a score for this first episode, I'll go with an 8.

See you in a few weeks.

What a happily polar opposite from Section 31!

The quality’s high, and the spirit is right. Nus Braka is admittedly a Batman villain, but Giamatti’s clearly having so much fun that you know what, it’s fine. (And while my science nerd side notes that you don’t snowflake up and immediately start freezing in space like that, since there’s nothing to quickly convect your body heat away, but it’s an obvious dramatic visual shorthand for a mass audience that won’t know or care, so again, fine.)

I enjoyed it. Strong performances - and as with every nu-Trek, a combination of superb casting and nu-Trek's willingness to allow its actors to influence their characters more. Not forgetting that some of the "kids" are on their first gigs.

My highlight is Gina Yashere. Mainly that as a Brit I grew up with seeing her in her early stand-up days. And that yet again, we have an actor who nails it while wearing a bucket on their head.

I gave it a generous 6.

The opening with Starfleet acting so utterly unStarfleet was a big mistake.

The VFX people forgetting shields and forcefields exists was more then a little annoying.

Lura's needlessly agressive introduction made me not care what happened to her in the slightest.

And the actor playing Jay-Den needs to stop trying to make his voice sound extra deep. He just cannot pull it off, and the absurdity of it ruined scene tension every time he talked.

Replaced all imgbb with postimage....... both were recommended here and both seem to be awful. I'll have to get back to the working and convenient imgur if this also doesn't work.

I kind of liked it but also at the time I dunno if it should be an important watch or not.
A 5 for me.
Some of the scenes really worked whilst others didn't, at all.
Oh, and one of y biggest peeves about Trek is still there - opsec is still fucking horrible in the 31st century.
