Star Trek: Prodigy Finds New Home At Netflix

I'm glad Prodigy is on Netflix, especially since it's a higher profile streaming service and it's where I think New Trek should've been in the first place. You want to find a new audience and get more exposure? Put your new show on a platform that most people already have anyway.

Well said, and I couldn't disagree less. (Or couldn't agree more... whichever side of the phrase is more fun for you.:bolian:)

CBS All Access/Paramount+ was a mistake. If Trek wasn't a lifelong love, I'd have never signed up even for the free trial.

It's the first streaming service I ever joined, and I got it for Trek.
I was VERY reluctant to subscribe to CBS All Access back in 2017. I didn't fully commit until "Context Is for Kings" hooked me.

As much as I was looking forward to Discovery, I also thought, "I'll just purchase the episodes on Amazon!" Then I found out that the Amazon purchases were linked to a CBSAA subscription. There was no way out! Good thing I like the show as much as I do, because then I genuinely wanted to subscribe to show my support.

I think Prodigy is still on SkyShowtime here in the Netherlands, my guess is that'll be the case for the other territories, where Prodigy won't be on Netflix, as well. Hopefully they will release season 2 on that as well, or if they release it on blu that'l be even better. The SkyShowtime app is not the best to stream stuff on TV. (That's my experience at least.)

My logic at the time was, "I'll just buy the DVDs/Blurays when they come out." But after a while I just signed up for CBSAA through Amazon Prime (which I already had) and opted for the version with commercials because it was the cheaper option. But I got stuck with seasons 1 & 2 of DSC on Bluray, which are unopened and gathering dust in my closet.

What I find ironic is that the ONLY Trek series that I want on physical media is the original non-R TOS on DVD. I find that I could care less about owning any other series. Even if P+ died tomorrow, I find that other than the TOS films, there isn't anything with a rewatchability factor that would make me buy them on physical media (although I did buy PRO season 1, but that was because I thought CBS/Paramount was going to declare it non-canon and destroy any unsold physical media.)

The show found a new home but how saved is it? Will we get anything beyond season 2 or it's a whole wait and see game?

If it does go beyond two seasons, Netflix will probably cut back their season orders to ten eps (that's what they did with Lucifer when they acquired it from Fox).

My assumption is that it's probably just going to air the second season and that'll be all she wrote. But I always tend to assume the worst. If the show finds an audience, more seasons will come.

I wouldn't be surprised if season 2 is it, but if it does get a third season that will definitely be the last. With three seasons of twenty episodes each, that'll be a total sixty episodes. When Disco finishes its fifth season, it'll have sixty-six episodes, only six more. With indications that Lower Decks could end with its fifth season, that'll only have fifty episodes, ten less than Prodigy would with three seasons. As far as episode count goes, Prodigy would have the second most of the current Treks. It will likely end there.

I've heard that they had an original 40 episode order, so if Season 2 is it, they had an ending in mind. Anything beyond season 2 would be a bonus.

They probably made S2's finale a convenient endpoint, but with potential for continuing, if it worked out.

Still wondering if Harry makes it onto S2, though... Garrett said the character "belonged" to Prodigy, but didn't say he was actually in it.
