Star Trek: Prodigy Finds New Home At Netflix

Well, I'm certainly glad Prodigy found a new home at Netflix.
I just hope it survives PAST Season 2 (Netflix unfortunately has a history of cancelling really good shows after just 1 or 2 seasons).
I'd be happy with Prodigy getting at least 4 or 5 seasons (doesn't need to be full 7... but wouldn't it be great if it did?).

This is a really overstated thing. Netflix drop shows that don’t do well, but there are many, many shows which have run for 5 seasons or more on there.

Fewer and fewer as time goes on. Personally, I'd say there's ridiculously little chance Prodigy makes it to five on Netflix, but either way it's cause for celebration that we're getting any. If season two is all we get, I'll still call it a win. :)

I don’t know… when you look back on the whole history of TV, very, very few shows make it past 1-2 Seasons. The ones which run and run are outliers.

People speak like it’s a Netflix thing when in fact it’s just part of the reality of television production. Always has been.

Why, Tim?
Because it’s the only confirmed show for 2024 with possible continuation at the moment? SNW season 3 has not been confirmed yet, Discovery is cancelled. A 25th century continuation series has not been green lit unless that is what Academy is, but I believe this show would take place in the generic sci-fi world of the 32nd century? Lower Decks is fun, but that toon cannot carry the franchise on its own. I am also assuming that due to the premise of Prodigy being very similar to that of Academy, that show will not be happening in a series format anymore, though I could be wrong as I am sure that Academy is still green lit? Having two young recruits/young prodigy shows on at the same time would be too niche. You have to admit, regardless of how good SNW is, Prodigy is arguably the most ‘Star Trek’ of the series, and the thought of having more legacy characters back in a serious show (not a Family Guy type show) is quite exciting. We know that Harry Kim, The Doctor and Chakotay will be back for starters (there could be more?). :bolian:

Perhaps Prodigy could even lead up to the 25th century continuation show, reintroducing Star Trek to the Netflix audience in a family friendly format, for a family friendly new show in much the same way that The Next Generation era Star Trek was. :)

I hope that they do a live action Prodigy episode similar to how they did with the Lower Decks crossover on Strange New Worlds, but this is wishful thinking and probably too expensive for a one off episode. :D

I am sure that when more announcements have been made in regards to the other shows and movie(s?) things will be clarified for the fans. We know that we have Section 31 and Academy, but Academy seems *too* similar to Prodigy as previously mentioned, so we will have to see what happens with that project.

In my head though, like I said, Prodigy is the flagship show because it is the closest thing that we have at the moment to a series taking the Star Trek franchise ‘boldly forward’ in to the 25th century. So until a 25th century legacy series is announced….

A lot of pressure for a show that couldn't even survive in its original home. ;)

Perhaps, but season 2 has already been made with the finishing touches currently being applied to each episode, so I am sure that the Netflix quality assurance team would have seen some preview screeners, if not the whole of the season 2?

As for not surviving on Paramount+, there were international broadcast issues which affected the original streaming audience figures. The Blue-ray set has also sold well. If season 2 is as good as we are expecting, then with good marketing by Netflix, Prodigy has the potential to be a hit. :techman:

SNW was about to film their third season when the strikes started, so it is another series with future episodes coming. (Only the SAG strike is preventing filming right now, since over half the season was already written and pre-production was starting.)

I'm still very, very happy PRODIGY found a new home and with the possibility of more seasons.

Fantastic news! Prodigy deserved to be saved.

SNW is the flagship, however. This gets us closer to the magic 1,000 episodes, depending on how one wants to count:

Series: Seasons, Episodes (Aired/Synd)
TOS: 3, 79/79 (The Cage would make 80)
TAS: 2, 22/22
TNG: 7, 176/178
DS9: 7, 173/176
VOY: 7, 167/172
ENT: 4, 97/98
------------
TOT: 30, 714/725 (+ The Cage)

DISCO: 4, 54/55 (Vulcan Hello/Battle Binary)
ST: 2, 10/10
PIC: 3, 30/30
LD: 4, 39/40 (2 at once in S4)
PRO: 2, 39/40
SNW: 2, 20/20
------------
TOT2: 15, 192/195
TOT1: 30, 714/725 + Cage
-----------
TOT: 45, 906/920 + The Cage

DISCO 5 will get us to 916/930 + Cage. SNW3 to 926/940. LD5 to 936/950. Academy gets 10, 946/960. PRO3 would be 966/980.
