S31 could be operating on info from the future that states a child of Sarek would be of immense importance to the Federation. BUT they screwed up and the info meant Spock. Or, since Michael is vital to ensuring Spock gets back on an even keel, it's actually both of them but they can't tell which right now.
Well, I mean, obviously it's Michael - you can tell by the lightning bolt on her forehead. ;)
I did find some of the Bajoran stuff boring though, that is the problem when you have to do over 20 episodes a year, its hard to keep it interesting all the time.
Their planet and culture were just super, super dull - flat colors and seemingly a desert theme for almost the whole planet?
Humor is subjective.
Little known fact is, it isn't. Coming up with the ultimate best joke is actually the purpose of this universe. One day, it will be told, everyone will laugh, and then poof, no more universe.

(BTW: That's the deal with the MU, too, only their purpose is the ultimate *worst* joke. ;) )

Note that this in no way dismisses the show in it's entirety - because a lot of people here seem to get extremely defensive once the tiniest bit of criticism against DIS is mentioned. But this simply is undeniably a major flaw of the show, an aspect where the final product is miles behind any competition and, yes, even an almost 60 year old show from the past.
With due respect, I disagree. This isn't defensiveness because of critique against DSC. This is my personal frustration at the fact that a new Star Trek cannot get the same grace extended to it that other series and films get. I felt the same way with Kelvin Trek and it feels repeated here. In prior Treks we get rationalizations up and down the board about why it happened that way. Chekov knew Khan? Well, clearly Chekov was on the ship but just not seen. Carol Marcus is Kirk's past girlfriend? Not only is that OK, but fans retcon her in to the backstory of being the "blonde lab tech" Gary Mitchell set Kirk up with.

With due respect to the critics of the show, criticism is easier to take when it feels evenly distributed. Thus far, newer iterations of Trek have seemed to be demanded to do the exact same thing as prior Trek, only better, without the mistakes.

Maybe Spock needs one of these.

He needs a pair of these:

It's the difference of a connection having an in-story logic, and being completely arbitrary, only to name-drop popular events and famous characters or organizations from the past.
So, how do you know that there is no in-story explanation for the connection between S31 (or Leland) and Burham's parents? Is it because we didn't hear that explanation in the last episode? I would think that the writers know at least as much as you do about story and character and would thus know that too many far flung connections between disparate characters might stretch the bounds of plausibility.

I suggest that there is very likely to be a plausible explanation similar to the "plausible" explanation for Ferengi/Picard, given in (wait for it), a subsequent episode.

Please tell me you're talking about Meredith Grey and not Nancy Drew. :)
now i had to gOOgle nancy, too

... don't forget i'm german :D

... and i avoid hospital shows whereever i can as i'm a bit of a weakling when it comes to people cut open (m*a*s*h is not a hospital show, btw)

I saw The Martian. None of the cool kids on Mars are wearing those. They're wearing shoes made out of potatoes.

the worst bajorian stuff was ordering everybody 'back to their castes' - made no sense at all
Bajorans are sheep. They're constantly looking for someone to tell them what to do. How else to explain this or the Dukat demon cult? I mean, come on, people. You can do better.

PS Statement above to be taken with an avalanche instead of a grain of salt. ;)
