I think that was Academy getting the obligatory: "this is what we expected" episode out of the way.

I thought ending worked, but I could do without the hijinks.

What a stinker! This kind of elementary school level shenanigans aren’t what Starfleet cadets (and especially officers!) should be about, this episode unfortunately reminds me of take me out to the holosuite, but is arguably even worse due to the lack of respect, cheating, endangering of fellow cadets and general immaturity of everyone involved. The only slightly redeeming part is the advancing of the relationships and character growth. 5 and I’m being generous.
