Not bad. I think Paul Giamiati was the best part. He really nailed his scenes. He is a great villain.

It is a shame that the intrepid class ship got disabled so quickly. I would have liked to see more of the ship.

The final act twist betrayal was great, though my enthusiasm is slightly dampened because I don't for the life of me see how Braka could've planned this out ahead of time without a mole inside the Academy. I mean, how could he have known when exactly the training exercise would've happened?

I have actually had a theory about a potential Venari Ral spy ever since the second episode...

Cadet "I swallowed my combadge" Pickford. If she had just been in the first episode, I just would have said she was just a random character. Having her in the first two episodes in a row, made me think there's more to do with her.

The Miyazaki's design definitely could've been made more Burn era looking but just like in the real world the comic isn't canon, it's clearly a sensationalised embellishment of real events so the uniforms in it can be easily ignored.

Overall it was a very exciting episode, tension and drama all around. Loved seeing an Intrepid appear and the Discovery reference was neat. Taygeta was quite a deep cut reference to the old Starfleet Command games.

The Furies are certainly interesting, deeply hybridised beings (including with animals like the Lynars from TNG) to the point where their existence is pain.

I'm very excited to see Nus Braka's endgame in all this, what did he steal and how does it tie in to Caleb's mum?

I think I have to give this episode a 10 as it inches beyond the boundaries of a 9.

The Athena needs to stay put in San Francisco. On one level, the training exercise was a resounding success, but yeesh! Enough trauma loops created to crochet a Starfleet Academy varsity jacket.

I have a feeling Nus Braka is going to hook up Ake with Moopsy at some point in the future.

I think the fact that it has a DISCO bridge is something fans shouldn't complain about since reusing sets means that this is now just officially a true Star Trek show.

Wasn’t the 1701-D battle bridge the 1701-A bridge? Didn’t TUC use TNG sets?

People seem to forget that reuse of Star Trek sets not only saves a ton of money, it’s also a long-standing Star Trek tradition.

As for the episode, that was one hell of a ride!

Why not have them find a 24th century ship. They kept the D sets from picard. At least thdt bridge looks way different to the Athenas bridge. I hadn't even watched the episode but knew exactly what they were going to do. Itd frustrating that they are repeating what STD did its last season.

So I'm just going to say it because it needs saying and I don't care what anyone thinks. Lt Commander Tomov was hot!

He hadnt been off the ship for six months and as of 1x05, its only been three months since 1x01 (96 Days). So we now know the Athena was operational before the pilot

It probably went through shakedown and testing first so it makes sense. Although the war college seemed to be based in buildings so it's less clear and also he could've gone for a stroll around the city at any time without needing to book off leave or even around the outdoors parts of the campus.
Maybe, but he’s pretty cold now.
Too soon at least wait until episode 7

Now, that was some good Star Trek today :)

Braka is a lot more menacing here (especially by the end) than the cartoonish behaviour in the first episode. I like it.

Can't learn if you're dead, which is why simulations beat field training.
You can't learn to fly a fighter jet without getting in the cockpit.
Sitting in front of a video game isn't going to cut it.
Do you have any family or friends who served in the military?
Ask them about "Live Fire" exercises.

really good shout. I hope they've seen the potential of that and included it. I also wonder if it's

SFA and SNW are both produced in Toronto as production costs are lower there.
Picard was produced in Los Angeles as PStew wanted to stay in L.A.
The 1701-D sets are located in L.A. Moving the production to California or moving the sets to Canada for the little bit of one episode would be costly.

Besides, they didn’t “find” the ship. They make it abundantly clear in episode that this is a starship graveyard, and the War College had been working on the ship for at least five years. It has been a continuing effort for training for cadets.

Unfortunately, I couldn't watch this episode. I started it, but as soon as the Furies appeared, I had to turn it off. They were just too creepy for me on a psychological level, and I unfortunately have a low tolerance for psychological horror. It's too bad because I really would have liked to see the interactions between Ake and Braka.
