I still don't like the movie, but that's a very fair argument.

Even though I do kinda like 09, I also think it is overrated, in particular when compared against STID and Beyond. In my personal franchise ranking, it sits lower than I think the average would put it. ST09 shares a surprising number of plot points with A New Hope. And I don't think it had as much to say as the sequels -- though I do like @fireproof78's analysis above. STID and Beyond both had more thought-provoking themes, imho.
Thanks, guys. I don't expect everyone to like them, or find the same meaning in the films. But, the argument that 09 lacks any semblance to "Star Trek" is something I will argue strongly against. It may not be to everyone's taste in Star Trek, but not everyone likes TNG (my dad, who loves TOS among them), DS9 or VOY.

Oh it definitely has that Trek je ne sais quois. I just think the next two improved upon the first.

Ps: the part of Beyond I disliked the most was when my favourite version of the USS Enterprise (swept back nacelle-struts) was destroyed!!! She didn't get enough airtime!!! Not really a gripe though!

I didn't really like the Kelvin Enterprise as all, but I did like the battle and was sorry to see it go, even if she gave as good as she got (which is a one eighty for me, since I was expecting I would be very happy to see it destroyed).

My favorite version is either the TOS era original Enterprise or the Enterprise-E.

Despite being raised with the Next Gen Enterprise and the 1701A from the classic movies, the Kelvin Enterprise will always be "my" Enterprise. Probably all those hours wasted arguing about how big she was...

I was sad to see her go, but she definitely went out in style! Especially her last gasp, flipping over and squishing Kalara.

We're going to have to agree to disagree about that. I found '09 O.K., and the next two get steadily worse.

Either Beyond should be the last one, or hopefully, the inevitable budget cuts lead to the fourth film being very different to the last three.

I do like the Kelvin Enterprise, but have to agree -- my personal favorite is the original 1701. There's nothing so iconic and fixed in my mind. The bridge sound effects alone are enough to put a big dumb grin on my face. The 1701-A would be a close second.

I like the TOS original and the -A, then the -D. I HATE the -E with the toilet seat saucer (similar to Voyager). Hate it!

Man, I liked that the saucers were of a different shape and that it made the ships more aerodynamic.

I thought the elegant E was a great improvement over the squat, unbalanced, repulsively ugly D...

The D was ugly? Can't agree at all on that.

I liked the picture of the TOS-movie refit/A pictured against the moon. That's peerless. The D is cool because it struck me as a credible, interesting and radical evolution on what a starship did 100 years before. Sovereign/Interpid are just functional slabs of ships from creators that kind of ran into a cul-de-sac on design.

Kelvin-Enterprise is unloved by me because it just seems misshapen. Lot's of awkward looking juts protruding from the hull. And the ship is also difficult for me to dwell on to appreciate with all the tidal wave FX and the jerky camera work. Now they've gone on and destroyed it! So one never got to know that ship at all. .

I think most of the designs, wardrobe, props ect from TNG era Trek are pretty bad. The outter design of the Enterprise D is okay and the Romulan warbirds look cool as well. Most everything else was bleh. The non Starfleet clothing is particularly bad IMO.

I say this as a TNG fan.

I think original movies STII to STVI had the best aesthetic out of all of Trek.

Krall was Eddison, but was Krall a product of the technology that Eddison was using?

How did he mutate into that particular race? Was that a template in the tech he managed to work out when he landed on that world?

Jaylah's story shows that Eddison and his people have been pirating passing ships for a long time. Eddison just used the vampire tech on a shipfull of aliens that looked like that and so he turned into one, visually. He probably went through at least a few different faces over the 100+ years they were out there.
