RIP Patrick Stewart

I am reeling from this one. Sir Patrick was a role model, as was Captain Picard to me as a young man. It all feels very surreal at the moment. My thoughts are with his family.

An unexpected little Star Trek moment today after learning of Sir Patrick's passing.

Trek is something that largely stays in the online world for me. A few people know I'm a fan, but I rarely encounter it in everyday life, if ever.

Went out for a run this morning and, just as I was making my way down the street, heard "Make it so, Number One" from behind a fence. :)

:(
One of my equipment reps I work with regularly actually emailed me yesterday about his passing. I was rather shocked to see how many in the office were as affected by the news of Stewart's death when I told them.

A terrible loss-I don't think I can really sum up the ethos and pathos of Star Trek without Picard in the first sentence and so much of that is down to patrick stewart.

This is really sad. But death is a part of life, I guess. :/ Sir Patrick got 86 great years, most of them healthy, and he gave so many people so much time to be entertained and enjoyed -- few can claim such a great legacy.

I'm really glad he got his own series in time, when he was still healthy, and damn vivid at age 80+!

I will miss him, but all good things...

Patrick Stewart dying was overshaded for me by one of my greatest real life role models, the mother of a childhood friend of mine, dying the same day.

She was a kind of 2nd mother for me in my childhood, the greatest supporter and role model in my youth, and I was lucky enough to be able to visit her again in the Netherlands the week before her death, for a farewell.

I joked to a friend that after the two greatest inspirations of my youth died the same day, I have no choice now but finally growing up. But it really hurts.

I am glad he did the Picard series and gave us additional 30 hours of his great acting, especially the 3rd season which was glorious. Too bad we won't see Picard again until they do the eventual TNG reboot.

RIP Sir Patrick.
Like many I grew up watching TNG. It opened a host of other interests for me (from getting into Star Trek in general to a life long fascination with space and airplanes).
I always enjoyed Stewarts acting and have come to appreciate it even more on several rewatches.
Thanks for the memories!

I'm guessing no one there actually watched Star Trek and just grabbed the first piece of music they found.
I expect that they know most of the main beats and Giacchino's theme is copiously the TPS theme with different notes at certain points, the Kelvin refrain is incredibly memorable quickly as well. But I would have preferred they didn't do it rather than do this, which is actually a bit insulting....

I'm thinking they just grabbed the sheet music for the end credits to the Kelvinverse movies and played that because that's exactly how it goes -- TOS theme, then Kelvinverse theme.

There’s probably a bit more to it. I expect that it’s the piece of Star Trek music they had already arranged/rehearsed as part of their repertoire so they could stage the tribute in a timely manner.
