Lt.Kyle

So Kyle's MA pages have been merged and the talk threads indicated that editors chatted with show crew who said this was meant to be TOS Kyle.

At what point does non-screen writer intention become canon? Will Decker was clearly supposed to be Matt Decker's son, and the official Star Trek website outright says so: https://www.startrek.com/database_article/decker-w . Yet the Memory Alpha page still treats that as speculation.
Memory Alpha's policy basically comes down to "if we like it, we'll accept it as canon."

And then some cast/crew (including Hemmer actor, per the latest Ready Room, and iirc Simon Pegg for Beyond as a writer?director?) use M:A to prep/study for their roles, and then those things turn up in the show and end up being added to M:A anyway so it's somewhat cyclic/self-perpetuating.

I was more referencing the fact that Memory Alpha is notorious for engaging in double standards when it comes to what information they allow on their site and what they don't. For example, here they are allowing the fact that this Kyle is the same as the character from TOS, because apparently a behind the scenes source has told them this is so. Yet, there was the infamous incident last year, where Memory Alpha refused to acknowledge Adira on Disco is non-binary because it's never been stated on the show and the only source on that is behind the scenes material, which MA claim can't be treated as canonical. At the time, everyone rightfully accused MA of bigotry, a charge they've never actually denied, as they continue to hide behind the shield of being "about canonicity."

We've had something similar with MA refusing to acknowledge the term "Kelvin Timeline" because it's never been used onscreen, despite the fact ever since the site started back in 2003 they've been using the term "Mirror Universe" despite the fact that was never used onscreen prior to 2019. It's generally assumed their decision not to use the term Kelvin Timeline is a form of anti-Abrams gatekeeping.

With all this in mind, the obvious answer to the question Yistaan was asking about why they acknowledge that SNW Kyle is the same as TOS Kyle yet won't acknowledge that Will Decker is Matt Decker's son is because they like the idea of the two Kyles being the same person, but don't like the idea of the two Deckers being father and son.

Neither SNW or TOS Kyle is an accurate representation of the "real" Kyle. Real Kyle is half Asian and half white, and he dyed his brown hair black under Pike and blonde from TOS onward.

Now we just need some CGI mashup of Andre Dae Kim and John Winston to show us the true Kyle.

Thankfully there's a salt vampire in that episode that never blinks so it'll all even out.
