Agents of SHIELD. Season 1 Discussion Thread

This clip confirms through a line of dialogue the existence of a long-time Marvel character in the MCU.

The line in question comes from Maria Hill, who is on the phone with Pepper Potts...

“Yeah, it went as expected. S.H.I.E.L.D. implodes, and everyone wants answers. The C.I.A, N.S.A, and N.R.L., them I can handle, but Congress…Congress is like kindergarten. Where is this Fridge? What was in there? Who or what is a 'Man-Thing'? I swear I need a cocktail and a lobotomy.”

^^ Cool. I loved that character.

You really are old  (as am I...)
On the contrary, I'm very young...in 1975.

I wondered if his story about how his older brother forced him to be cruel to his younger brother was supposed to be some kind of motivation. Either way, the bottom line is that he's a psychopath-- which is kind of a cop out in the motivation department.
I think it's meant to shed light on is relationship with Garrett...now Garrett fills the spot that his older brother did, persuading him to do bad things. (I might even speculate that Garrett really is his older brother, but that's reaching.)
Pretty much everybody has gotten into a fight with their siblings. Even if it gets to the point where it fits the psychological definition of "abusive," it seldom results in an adult who can coldly shoot multiple people through the head without compunction. That person had to have something wrong with them to begin with. So no matter what kind of backstory they give him at this point, he's never going to be more than a psycho killer.

Man-Thing's wife was one of the extremis soldiers that tried to kill Tony in IM3.

<<<<<Don't think I didn't enjoy hearing that name drop when I saw the clip earlier this morning!!! Ted Sallis has, like Banner did, already tinkered with recreating the Super Soldier Serum and made him Man-Thing!!!

This is going to be the first week I won't be able to watch live (iirc). How's ABC for watching online?

^I didn't know you could watch it online.

Nice clip and that's news to me sojourner.

Yeah, it looks like you can't. Oh well. I'll have to see how quickly it gets on iTunes/Amazon/etc.

I will remain disappointed that he was portrayed as a Hydra agent, but I have to go with flow. However, at least get his name right.

Geez calm down. Not all of us have an encyclopedic knowledge of how names are spelled.

For what it's worth, you're not alone. Joss Whedon is probably the most misspelled name on the internet. One continually sees "Whendon, "Weldon," "Wheedon," etc. And don't get me started on on "Josh" instead of Joss.

I swear, the Babylon-5 guy (whose name I'm not even going to attempt to spell) doesn't get his name mangled as much. :)

I don't know why they make it so hard to find, but you can access the episodes here.

ABC.com and HULU make you wait a week before letting you watch new episodes unless you pay $8 a month for the "premium" service-- "Hulu Plus".

ctv.ca has it set up for free viewing for non-BellMedia internet subscribers for the first week after night-of-broadcast for each episode.

Our local TV was screening Voyager almost three years behind the States.

I would buy Novelizations from the local chain book store to find out what was happening with the big stories off in the distance like Futures End or Flashback.

I am NEVER putting up with that shit again.

I find it very strange the way that Garrett just went off-screen in the last two episodes. If they knew they were setting him up to be the Big Bad why didn't they contract him for more episodes?
