Agents of SHIELD. Season 1 Discussion Thread

I vaguely remember Blizzard. In my memory, he's drawn by George Tuska, which would make sense. Kind of an odd choice, but the show hasn't disappointed me yet.

I am hoping Skye turns out to be Madame Hydras daughter, at least that will make her character a little more interesting.

I finally watched the last episode. I think this was one of favorite episodes we've gotten so far. I did not expect the end at all.

Hmm, I guess Baron von Strucker is one role where you pretty much have to cast a Caucasian actor, since he's a Nazi and all.

It'd be interesting if Dougray Scott got the role, since he was originally going to be Wolverine in X-Men before he had to drop out and was replaced with Jackman.

Like they did with the Norse Asgardians in the Thor movies? ;)

^What? That's a completely bizarre comparison. Asgardians don't have to be white because they're aliens who were interpreted as gods by the Norse, and probably had their ethnicity adjusted in the telling, just like Renaissance artists and Fox "News" anchors pretend that Jesus, a Middle Eastern Jew, was white. They're expected to look a certain way, but that look is not intrinsic to their identity. But Baron Von Strucker was, fictitiously, a high-ranking figure in an organization whose defining ideology was white supremacy and whose goal was the extermination of other races. So he pretty much has to be white, or at least to look it.

I wonder if they'll keep Strucker's Nazi roots, though, since they're not going to want him to be eighty years old. He could just be portrayed an evil German villain connected to Hydra, not the Nazis.

Many, many years ago, when I used Strucker in an IRON MAN novel, Marvel's licensing department ask me to delete any references to Strucker's days in the Third Reich, so he became just an evil German war criminal of unspecified political orientation!

Granted, that was a long time ago and different people are running Marvel now . . ..

Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes that came out in 2010ish, replacing the NAZIs with Hydra as the other side in World War II, which is historically irresponsible if 5 year olds had started repeating that at school (Remember why your teacher slapped you with a ruler for spelling chaos with a "K"?).

But did they have a choice?

Children's Cartoon, Captain America frozen since World War II, but you can't explain Hitler to a 4 year old.

Wussies.

Well, Germany still has its neo-Nazis, in spite of all the effort they've put into things since that war ended. No reason why the Cinema'Verse edition of von Strucker can't be one of those, a scion of one of the Old Guard who got away and hid...and the same for Helmut Zemo if it comes to that.

Having Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch working for von Strucker as part of the plot seems a bit Odd, of course. Whedon will be aware of the "Roma vs. Nazism" history, though...

Oh god.

He's conflating them with the Fenris twins.

Since they are not allowed to be Magneto's children, or even probably mutants.

I wonder if Mckellan would get (pretend for a joke) uppity about that, if some one tells him that his children have been kidnapped?
