Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 4x03 - "Human Best Friend"
Aside from the severed finger moment, I really enjoyed this episode. It was especially refreshing after last week's dark, horror-leaning episode, which was really not my cup of tea and felt out of place to me.
Of course, I wouldn't want the whole season to be like this, but I don't mind an occasional crack episode when it's clearly intended as one.
It certainly had its fair share of plot holes, but given that the writers clearly weren't aiming for seriousness, it was easy to forgive.
I did find the bomb sequence a little out of place, but the way they handled it didn't bother me. It was in the spirit of the episode, and the lapses in judgment on the characters' part looked like the result of their inebriated state.
I'd give it an 8 out of 10.

You have not truly enjoyed Total Eclipse of the Heart until you've listened to it in the original Klingon.
SNW version of The Naked Time. Not bad. I give it a 7.
I dont mind silly so long as there is a logical reason and its made clear that this isnt their normal behavior. Spock and the plant was hilarious.
My main gripe is peace being brokered because of a happy accident. The alien race that felt insulted was turned happy because of an explosion. Get real.

I've decided to give a 10 to every episode of season four and five no matter what. Because some of y'all are just vicious. 
My scale is
A 10 has to be on the level of City On The Edge Of Forever, Measure Of a Man or The Visitor. Legendary status.
A 1 has to be as bad as Spocks Brain or Shades of Gray. Just so dull and boring that Id rather watch grass grow.
An episode has to try really hard to make it to either one of those levels. Hence, I hand those numbers out very rarely.

There were a few funny parts, like Una singing 'Total Eclipse of The Heart' in Klingon and Spock seeing Ortega and Scotty as plants. And Scotty and Ortegas making friends was nice. But was that enough to justify a whole episode (10% of the season) on this? When we already know there's a puppet episode coming up too? I'm my opinion: NO.
I really didn't like how they wrote La'an this episode, comedy or not. I don't have much faith in them handling her story well for the rest of the season.
What was going on with Chapel? She smashes a glass on the ship then she's...really intense during bingo? What are we meant to make of that, if anything?

It did feel like a Lower Decks or Academy episode, and it could have worked there. It felt like such a waste of a slot here, considering we only have so many episodes left
I think SNW's love for genre-hopping has caused so many episodes to surprise so many people for being as divisive as, like, pretty much all the rest of them. Even back when the comedy eps landed more often for a larger number of fans (anecdotally, at least), you'd still have people who couldn't stand them.
It's probably the first season that has the fewest divisive eps, which is undoubtedly part of why a lot of people think more fondly of it — it was before the "big swings" started happening. But everything from, really, the back half of the second season or so onward, it seems like it'll have fans, and it'll have naysayers. And they're often almost 50/50!
I get the feeling we're not supposed to know until later in the season, which is, well, imo not the best way to do this.
My strongest advice to all fellow fans at this point is to try not to think about how many episodes we have left. The writers didn't see things that way, and I guess we're not supposed to, either. SNW has firmly cemented itself as "the variety show," and wears it like a badge of honor.

At first I thought the plant on Spock's table was a Talosian singing plant, but it wasn't blue.
Clearly proof that SNW is in a similar but alternate universe. Scotty still looses a finger but a different one in this timeline! Their is many universes out their were Scotty looses the other fingers instead and some where he never looses one. Then their is the universe were Scotty is a talking monkey because in that world humans just became talking monkeys instead of what we are today.
Technically he still has all five fingers on his hand since we see a stand-in provide a hand closeup in "Wolf in the Fold." Doohan was missing the finger, but the character has all of his.

I always compare Strange New Worlds to The Original Series. It's just the most natural comparison, in my opinion. To me, it's clearly trying to recapture that same style of storytelling from the '60s, just through a modern lens. Because of that, an episode like this doesn't feel out of place at all.
In a franchise where characters dress up as mobsters on a literal gangster planet, chase the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, or do just about anything seen in The Animated Series, nothing in this episode struck me as being too silly.
It's certainly not my favorite episode, but I like that we're finally expanding on Erica's character. She's getting much more screen time, and we're even learning a little more about our dear Mr. Scott. Those little bits of character development help me forgive some of the more outlandish parts of the episode.
