There was always some inconsistency here, as far back as TOS. In "Whom Gods Destroy," Garth claims to have discovered some super-colossal doomsday explosive that dwarfs anything possessed by the Federation -- but which, onscreen, doesn't seem more potent than a stick of dynamite. (He blows up a dancing girl, not a planet.) Is that really more impressive than what we've been told the Enterprise is capable of?

Although I suppose we can rationalize that Garth was simply off his head and delusional.

In screen yes the explosion appears small, but in dialog:

SULU: There's been an explosion on Elba Two!

SCOTT: Point nine five!

MCCOY: It must've wiped out everything.

SCOTT: Immediate probe. Is the force field in place, Mister Sulu?

SULU: Yes, sir. Solidly.

UHURA: (at Spock's station) Life continues to exist on the planet.

And there's always been similar exaggeration in Star Trek. Characters constantly claiming that a matter antimatter reactor breach looks like an exploding Sun; and could wipe out a star system, it every time we see a ship explode even with a warp core breach the explosion is exceedingly small and quick on screen.

Budgets didn't match what the visuals needed. Or Starfleet eventually came up with a way to contain antimatter explosions.

Pluto seems to be a planet in the Trekverse. Or else there is a different Planet X 65 million years ago.

Nice touch to not have Saturn have rings, though they're thought to have formed 100 to 400 million years ago, so should still be there at this point.

Because Star Trek is a rigorous scientific pursuit that inspired people to join the sciences and become explorers and it must be exacting in its nomenclature!
