Spoilers Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

Man, why did you have to remind me about the Stargate Universe cliffhanger?

At least that's getting a new series soon so they might throw in a line to make us feel better. Or maybe we'll get a whole episode about how they never came back, that seems to be in fashion right now.
I'm thinking a throwaway line about "we never heard from those sorry bastards aboard Destiny again."

Just saw this Instagram post from Bella Shepard. Looks like the young cast has been spending some fun time together at the beach and some club. It’s so nice to see that they apparently grew close as friends.

They are probably just fooling around in that one photo, but it almost looks like George Hawkins and Romeo Carere could be an item. :)

Ugh, you are right. The whining about this makes talking about the shows here and in other places really tiring. There are very, very few other franchises that have decades of lore and hundreds of episodes across a variety of shows/movies/formats like Trek does.

Of course, the response to this argument is "but they're doing it too much/nostalgia for nostalgia's sake," etc...and it just keeps going round and round in rhetorical circles. What's funny is that a lot of it boils down to "MY nostalgia is good, YOURS is bad; when they reference things I like personally the thing is good and when they reference things I don't like the thing is bad."

The bottom line is that Trek would not have survived if it treated each show as a discreet thing in a vacuum. If I never see the words "nostalgia" and "give us something new" ever again I wouldn't be upset.

ETA: my autocorrect used the incorrect form of “discrete” but I’m leaving it…
Um for 21 (1966 - 1987)years STAR TREK was Kirk, Spock and McCoy (with the background cast of Scotty, Sulu, Uhura and Chekov); and survived and even thrived.

TNG was the only other Trek franchise show that really made an impact on a World Wide stage.

The rest (including the current streaming era series) are all niche shows and one or two in that group are really well received by Star Trek fandom, but the rest of the world see Star Trek as either TOS or TNG for the most part.

The rest of the world MIGHT know the names of someone who walked on the moon not named Neil Armstrong.
