Spoilers Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

Yeah Enterprise's writers definitely made some choices, with things like the Ferengi and the Romulans, but they usually cleaned up after themselves and even packed the NX-01 away before the Federation was formed in order for Kirk's ship to be the first Federation Starship Enterprise.

If you’re discussing Discovery, who’s to say it didn’t exist?
If you’re talking about Enterprise, it’s been over two decades since it was on the air. Let it the fuck go. Your schtick wasn’t amusing in 2002. It’s not amusing now.
I'm talking about enterprise yes, discover is just a sequel to it. Amusing or not, there is no NX-01 Enterprise in canon, not 2.5 decades ago and not now, regardless of the franchise owners/show-runner(s) insistence of keeping this glaring continuity violation as somehow "canon"

Except the NX-01 is canon, since the show exists.

Also, DISCO does take place much later than ENT, so on the surface it looks like a sequel to ENT, but it's really a prequel to TOS. Especially considering Burnham is Spock's adopted sister, Sarek and Spock end up recurring characters in those first two seasons, Pike is a lead in the second season, and the Enterprise herself, NCC-1701, appears.

(I will definitely defend ENT far more than DISCO. Except visually, DISCO is the most inferior series in the franchise. Jury is still out on SFA, but it's got 2 seasons, for now, to see how it ends up in the ranks.)

DISCO is a sequel to ENT and a prequel to SNW. Which is a prequel to TOS.
I agree that DISCO is both a sequel AND a prequel, depending on what show in the franchise you're talking about.

It's functions more as a prequel than a sequel, though, given the time they chose for it to take place.

While DIS Seasons 1/2 are an "interquel" between ENT and TOS, I don't really feel like there is much continuity with either series.

When it comes to ENT, you basically just have a little callback in the Season 1 uniform designs, plus the reference to Archer in the MU section.

TOS is more complicated, though I'd argue Season 1 doesn't really concern itself much with TOS at all. We have Sarek, and are introduced to Mudd (although he's a very different character than in TOS). It's only in Season 2 with the introduction of Pike/Spock/Una that it starts feeling more like a "proper" TOS prequel (or, more properly, an interquel between The Cage and TOS proper, the same as SNW). Even here, however, the show only seems interested in putting Pike into his proper context. The Spock we see in DIS Season 2 doesn't really align with what we saw elsewhere, and it's only in SNW that they start aligning the two.
