Spoilers Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

The pilot and every other time that Archer complained that the Vulcans were holding them back.

There's probably a better quote.
Perhaps; neither of those quotes indicates being limited to the Solar System only. “Ankle-deep in the ocean of space” is awfully vague. It just implies “not very far, compared to all those other guys.”

I would also question why (and how) the Vulcans would be able to hold Starfleet to those limits yet not be able to hold the Boomers to the same ones. If anything, it should be the other way around. Which is why I’d argue that “ankle-deep” pretty much equates to “as far as the Boomers have been getting — which ain’t much, compared to the Vulcans or anybody else”.

Earth definitely colonized outside our own solar system before the NX-01 was launched. But without a Warp 5 engine we couldn't get very far.

Looks like they were trying to spell tlhIngan, but using a direct Latin letters-Klingon Font, so it comes out as "tuHlnghan" with the lower case L in the middle just being a normal L, not a Klingon letter.

Also the context for the poser is about the Klingon Language, so it should have been tlhIngan Hol eitherway.

Is it just me or does the bridge design look similar to pikes enterprise bridge? Orange doors, railings with neon strip lighting, similar window viewscreen, monitors above the consoles and a one piece helm. The color is muted like the STD bridge. Except for the larger size it seems very much like a 23rd century bridge. You would think in 900 years they would have advanced the bridge far more.

I'm guessing that's possible, but the shields and weapons on ships ran off the warp core. I do not remember what it was in disco, I do not think they were hit by any fleets to see how tough it really is.
It was hit by rocks from the DMA.

Which would have had a lot less energy then hours of bombardment by a fleet of Starships.

O'RLY?

"Sub Rosa": At least it was directed well and had a creepy, spooky atmosphere and vibe. And McFadden really gave her all in that one.

"THRESHOLD": A genuinely pretty good episode, only brought down a bit by the ending. Great body horror, cool concept, and some really good characters beats and scenes for Tom.

A. G. Robinson broke the warp two barrier in 2143.

It'd take Man years to get anywhere before 2150.

JONATHAN: Well, Billy Cook said we'd be flying at warp five by now if the Vulcans hadn't kept things from us.
FATHER: Well they have their reasons. God knows what they are.

FORREST: We've been waiting for nearly a century, Ambassador. This seems as good a time as any to get started.

ARCHER: I'm not interested in what you think aboutthis mission so take your Vulcan cynicism and bury it along with yourrepressed emotions.
T'POL: Your reaction to this situation is a perfect example of why yourspecies should remain in its own star system.
ARCHER: I've been listening to you Vulcans tell us what not to do allmy entire life. I watched my father work his ass off while yourscientists held back just enough information to keep him fromsucceeding. He deserved to see that launch. You may have life spans oftwo hundred years, we don't.
T'POL: You are going to be contacting Starfleet to advise them of oursituation.
ARCHER: No, I'm not. And neither are you. Now get the hell out thereand make yourself useful.

Henry Archer insisted that it was unfair that the Vulcans just didn't tell them how to crack warp 5 in 2063. He thought it was maddening but that's not why he went mad, it's that the Vulcans were holding humanity back because they were assholes.

The Vulcans kept the humans close to Earth, by not sharing dangerous secrets, rather than by imposing rules, or building a wall, but from how Soval is pushing Forrest around in the pilot, are you all completely sure that they humans didn't do what they were told most of the time by the crazy powerful ancient aliens?

Looks like it's literally tlHInghan, they didn't realize tlh and ng are separate letters :D

It’s obviously a minor thing, but I think it’s a little odd how in many of the preview scenes they are all running around with those fat iPads all the time. Couldn’t they have come up with something a little more sleek and futuristic? With those rounded edges they look like some kids toy.

Obviously I am rather late to the party: I had heard about SFA (vaguely), but I had to find out about its debut this Thursday in the New York Times. Anyway, I hope I like SFA.
