Sulu is already on the ship at the start of Kirk's five-year mission, so he is the least surprising reveal in recent Trek casting.
The 64 quatloo question is: Will we see a Mark Piper leaving as Leonard 'Bones' McCoy enters?
I am genuinely curious if Sulu will be in science blue or if they'll just stick him in gold because that's his best known look.
Then memory alpha purists will just write clunky sentences about how he joined as a helmsman at some point transferred to science and then at some point transferred back to helm.
Also very interested to see the circumstances of M'Benga's demotion from CMO.
Doesn't look like Uhura will be transferring to the command division here either but it's easier to explain that as she transferred when Kirk took over because he encouraged her but she felt it just didnt suit her.

On Thomas Jane - "Watch out for the Doors and Corners, Jim" I saw this on threads earlier - and gave me a good laugh. If you have watched The Expanse, you get this reference. Yes I am pleased.

I always thought that Ken Jenkins, who played Dr. Paul Stubbs in TNG and Dr. Bob Kelso on Scrubs would have been the perfect Dr. Piper.

Fix was a great character actor who appeared in a lot of westerns - as most working actors did, in those days.
Watched Wake of the Red Witch the other afternoon - Fix was a sailor on John Wayne's ship in that one.
There was no way or reason they'd consider wasting time on a non-character like Piper instead of introducing McCoy.

I was being tongue-in-cheek.
I think it's safe to assume there isn't going to be a Year One (McCoy is too much of a known commodity).
Is he though? SNW has Rebecca Romijn. And Thomas Jane has done a couple TV shows in the past.
