This episode felt a little stretched out to me,

though it was good to give Burnham and Saru perhaps one last adventure. Their relationship has been one of the series' best and so they deserved a good-bye episode. I don't buy L'ak and Moll being strong enough villains to go for ten episodes. Hopefully we'll discover (pun somewhat intended) that they are working for someone else, or that another player will join the game.

I wasn't expecting Moll's tie to Book. At first, I was wondering if she was Romulan. Now that a tie has been established, I would've done a more obvious move and made her Book's daughter, sister, or niece instead. The way they went made the relationship a bit overly complicated (especially for a final season). I'm still not sold on Rennie's character yet, but I do like him joining the crew. I've been hoping that more 32nd Starfleet officers would join Discovery. And I like that he's similar to Burhnam, so now we can see her become more of a mentor, like how Georgiou was with her.

Stopping the action to talk about relationships kills the momentum, but it's such a Discovery thing now, that's just part of their brand.

It was a fun romp.
To be honest I already don't remember much of the episode. All the character drama was fine, but nothing special. Normally I hate fake-out good byes (Saru will be back). But it was a heartfelt "see you later in a different role" - which to be honest should happen way more often in Star Trek (where normally every character is static or [fake-out] dies). So it felt pretty natural.

Best:
That freakin' djungle, man! If every planet-of-the-week would be on that level...

Worst:
"Okay we just found 1 doohickey, now we only have to find 4 same ones more in the next 8 episodes!". Ugh.

Saru's getting married! Will she give him a radioactive necklace?

They've gotta get from there to the temple? Bet they wish they beamed up some of the bikes from the last episode

Moll reminds me of Ciana from Farscspe

Omg these people are so self congratulatory. Please stop spooging over each other for a minute, it's bordering on toxic positivity.

Book as her number one? Fuck that.

When the eyes opened on the stone head, I thought we had a stone giant on our hands so must admit I'm disappointed

The follow up was fun though

Oh good, Book knows Moll. She's family.

Saru looks like he's been on the tan bed, he's like a big burned cheeto

Angry Captain is now Michael's number one. Cool.

Liked this better than episode 1.

Not just this season, but the holocomms constantly glitch and have an audio effect. Which means they are inferior to the holocomm used briefly on DS9/Defiant hundreds of years earlier.

Not a complaint, just an observation...Fred looked like "What if Cumberbatch played Data". ;)
I thought maybe they have holos clearly show they're holos so no one can fake real people with them, perhaps coming from today's issues where you won't be able to distinguish AI generated stuff from human-made stuff. Only 31 gets to make perfect holos, and even they forgot to add UV IR :D

Ah that's who he reminded me of!

If those statues were meant to represent Promellians, they have 4 eyes now
Could be their gods as well. The skeleton seemed to have a skull with a crest though, like the Proms in TNG.

Some basic thoughts on Episodes 1 & 2:

+ This is a sequel to TNG's "The Chase", which I appreciate because I liked the Progenitors but I feel like they could have added a disclaimer, "Obviously, evolution is still real and true but it explains a few holes in the fossil record."
It would be great if they make a connection to the Voth somehow, since the genetic long-term program worked on them as well

Prediction: Michael is booted up to Admiral. Rayner take over as Disco's CO. Getting a "Dead man walking" vibe for Saru.

I enjoyed the first two episodes for the most part but this show is almost more cartoon than even the cartoons in some of the action stuff like Burnham flying around in space and riding on spaceship hulls at warp and Pod racing. I also cringed at one scene that was right out of season one between Burnham and Suru were they basically stop what they are doing to tell each other just how awesome they are. If Burnham broke down into tears it would have been complete. I really like Raynar but I hope they don't have him fawning over the greatness of Burnham in like 2 episodes. The show has been down this road before. They bring someone in for conflict and to be obstacle to her to only turn them into a Fanboy/Fangirl right off the bat.

Action Saru! Awesome Saru! The speed running slayed me! And I love the bionic eye effect as he focuses on the symbols lit up by iridescent bacteria (which is a terrific concept!). The Six Million Dollar Saru!

Nah, it's not "cartoon" it's high octane action-adventure stunts. Like Mission: Impossible, The Fast and the Furious, or the Kelvin films.
