Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

The "experimental" episodes (Lower Decks crossover and musical) were unwatchable
Curious as to what made them "unwatchable". Both feature well trod Trek tropes (anomaly that makes people do odd things and time travelers are out place in the period they're stuck in) The performances and writing was on point and the comedy worked.

No idea, but Martin Quinn has been in Toronto a lot the last couple months, so we're definitely getting plenty of Scotty.

Now is it Scotty as Chief Engineer? Or Scotty has an underling to Pelia?

We'll have to wait and see!

I would guess that he stays with the crew as an underling and advances through the ranks to become chief at a later date. He's a Lieutenant now, and a Lieutenant Commander in TOS...

"Those Old Scientists" is some of the most carefree, fun Star Trek I've ever seen.

M'Benga's soft, confused "explode, you say" when Boimler tells him that some tricorders of this era were prone to exploding is one of the biggest laughs I've let out watching Trek in years. That episode is just golden.

Probably an Easter egg reference toTOS S1 Arena ;)

( And I say that because that's the only TOS episode where I remember a tricorder exploding.)

For my money, these eps are classic Trek:

Tier 1: Classic: Momento Mori; Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach; A Quality of Mercy; Ad Astra per Aspera; Those Old Scientists; Under The Cloak of War, Hegemony.

Tier 2: Near Classics: Spock Amok; All Those Who Wander, Charades.

Srltrange New Worlds, Comet, Ghosts of Ilyria, Tomorrow, Lotus Eaters, Lost In Translation & Subspace Rhapsody are all very good. YMMV, of course.

The musical was tough for me the first time. Better the second.

Children of the Comet was the episode that took me from "Hey, this show is really good" with Strange New Worlds (the episode) to "WHY IS THE NEXT EPISODE NOT ON RIGHT NOW?!??"
Yeah, it was the second of the two episodes shown a week early at the NYC Paley Center. My immediate reaction was "Why did y'all do all that other stuff after 1970 instead of going straight to this?"

Any theories as to why they switched Pikes Warp phrase from "Punch it", as seen in ST09, to "Hit it"? They are so similar, there must have been some behind the scenes discussion.
