Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Disco had thirteen episodes because of a co-production deal it had with Netflix, which SNW does not have. And that deal has expired for Disco, which is why the coming fifth and final season will only have ten episodes.

Huh, I did not know that.

Well in any case for this sort of format I'd rather have more episodes per season, but I do understand that series cost more to make nowadays, proportionally speaking.

Rather have 10 out of 10 good ones rather than 10 good ones out of 13/20/what ever episodes.
Yeah we look back at, say, TNG and think it was an awesome series -- and it was -- but actually we tend to remember the really good episodes and ignore the 50% of it that was so-so or forgetable. I guess them being forgetable is why we tend to ignore them! :D

Meaning "the one I actually drink because the other ones are bad for me?"
Coke Zero's not good for you, either.

It does resemble something that's familiar to people because of branding, but is even more empty of content.

The Saturn is a Participation award for products that never competed successfully for industry attention.

You know... now that I think about it, the only thing I don't like about the second season is that it only has 10 episodes. Why does Discovery get 13-14 while SNW, which I consider vastly superior, on top of being episodic, only 10? It's unfair!
Because in the beginning of its run Star Trek Discovery was a co-production of Paramount Pictures and Netflix; and at that time Netflix series always had at least 13 episodes a season; and Netflix was paying a majority of the production costs as well.

When CBS All Access/Paramount Plus decided they were going to go International and not just provide streaming access to US customers, Paramount bought out their contract with Netflix and completely took over production of Star Trek Discovery and at that point decided that a 10 episode season for the majority of the streaming shows they produced would be the norm going forward.
