Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Yep. And I didn't even mention the part where the Talaxian colony magically shows up right before the ship gets home, literally on the other side of the quadrant from where the rest of their species is (with all of Borg space and a vast terrifying void in between).

This reminds me, I was watching Voyager recently and in that show one of the first new species they meet in the Delta Quadrant (the aliens in "Time and Again") are completely identical to humans. And nobody on Voyager seems to think that to be strange in spite of the distance between Earth and this planet. I guess that "regular human" is basically just the norm in Star Trek. Most aliens add some sort of additional trait (pointy ears, nose ridges, etc) but some keep it classic and just look like homo sapiens.

Ikr. You'd think it would be odd to them.

Aliens who are identical to humans or near identical to humans are extremely common in the Alpha, Beta and Gamma Quadrants, no reason the Delta Quadrant would be any different.

Anson Mount's favourite Trek character is Data, Rebecca's is Riker.
Anson and Rebecca both said in unison, to look out for Episode 9.

Episode 9 is allegedly titled 'Subspace Rhapsody'.... A musical?

Not a Trek related but mentioned in the video, Rebecca's Mystique makeup in the X-Men films took 9 hours, her work day started at midnight because of that. Not surprised considering it was most of her body.

Anson Mount's old age makeup in the season 1 finale took 3 hours.

Not to mention we've seen aliens that resemble other species but don't appear to be the latter species. I think we've seen a couple aliens that resemble a healthy Viidians a couple times.

At some point huge bell bottoms are going to be the rage once again. I want to live long enough to rock those and unironically.
My latest purchased pants and jeans are almost flares. Hang on, babe! ;)

I mean, no? Just ask my wife and I who never line up in terms of temperature and fight over the thermostat. Now do that for a crew of 400+.
I have a theory, backed by totally anecdotal evidence, that people pair up with their temperature opposite. My hubby sleeps on top of the covers and I sleep under a blanket. :D

Fashion does little but make people anxious, self-loathing, uncomfortable and envious. I find it altogether fatiguing and maddening when feel like their fashion doesn't fit. It's exclusionary and mean spirited.

Boring? I'd take that over the tears of my daughters.
I'm sorry your daughters deal with that. It is cruelty. I've been fat my whole life and have a lot of issues with this stuff myself. I'm thankful that there are nice things I like in my size nowadays. Wearing things that fit me - both physically and my taste - is awesome, but still harder (and more expensive) than it should be.

I prefer Life on Mars.
I see what you did there!

As long as it's not the show's finale I'm fine with it.

I just marathoned the first season of strange new worlds. And like all of new trek. I hate it. It's just so mediocre. All flash, no heart, no soul. My biggest problem is with captain pike himself. He's a pussy. There are no other words to better describe him, than being a pussy. He's emotionally weak and weak of character. And let's others walk all over him. Dont get me wrong his physical stature is adequate. But his presence is not commanding like a captain's should be. I have no respect for him. I liked him on discovery(which was the only thing I actually liked about discovery). But here on his own show. I feel like they've neutered him on purpose. For humiliation. Like he cant be strong like previous captains were. (My favorite trek overall was TOS. Because it felt like an adventure in space. I felt like the crew actually respected captain kirk. I liked TNG season 1 because it felt like TOS. But season 2 onwards TNG devolved into pretentious technobabble. DS9 is my second favorite series. Solely for sisko aka space shaft. Voyager felt pointless. Enterprise wasn't bad. But not worth it. Only jeffrey combs as shram redeemed that series.) I dont like any of the bridge crew either. They're forgettable. Spock is ok but feels forced. Like ethan peck was not allowed to do his own take on spock. Instead he's pigeon holed. Fells like he's just imitating leonard nimoy at times. (Zachary quinto's spock felt too emotional for me.) And there is an overall lack of adventure. Going places doing things. The first episode was fine. But every episode after that felt mid. Except for the first servant episode. I liked how they couldn't save the day in that one. All the other episodes from season 1 felt like I'd already seen them before in other series. No take was original. It's like they recycled old episodes and ideas and put a new coat of pain. I did like the episodic nature of SNW though.

P.S. How the hell can you have a visually impaired engineer? The concept is cool but it becomes too unbelievable, too immersion breaking.
